On Friday after a month of care and rehabilitation at the GSPCA 'Taffy' the female adult Long Eared Owl that was rescued in Sark at the beginning of August was ready to return to the wild.
As with all wildlife where possible we want to return rescued wildlife to the area they were they were found.
On Friday the Isle of Sark Shipping Company helped transport the beautiful wild bird from Guernsey back to Sark so she could be returned to the area where she was found just over 4 weeks ago.
The GSPCA would like to say a huge thanks to the Isle of Sark Shipping for their help in taking Taffy back home.
When Taffy first arrived she was thin and had a head injury and it was wonderful to set her on her way back on Friday to Sark where she belongs in the wild.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said "It's taking us nearly 5 weeks to get Taffy the Long Eared Owl fit enough to be released back in the wild where she was found in Sark."
"It's rare for us to help rescue and care for owls with only a hand full each year and even more rare to see a Long Eared Owl."
"Thank you to the Isle of Sark Shipping for sailing Taffy back to be released on Sark."
"Although rare for us to see raptors we've been helping quite a lot of birds of prey this summer and it is always wonderful when we can release them back to the wild."
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "It is a joy when we can help wildlife back to the wild especially when they are animals or birds that we rarely see like Long Eared Owls."
"It is also wonderful when we can help animals from our neighbouring islands and we are hugely thankful to the Isle of Sark Shipping for taking Taffy back where she belongs."
"Taffy has had a ring placed on her leg fo ID purposes thanks to local bird ringer Chris Mourant and we try and tag released wild animals to help ensure they do well after being released and so we can ID them if the ever come back in our care."
