Kenya arrived at the GSPCA on the 10th July 2013 and up until yesterday was our longest stay cat in need of a home.
Mitzi a black female cat was our last ever longest stay cat in recent years and had been at the GSPCA for nearly 2 years. She was rehomed this month and we have had some wonderful updates that she is doing very well.
Kenya originally was a very nervous cat when he first arrived at the GSPCA and did not always show himself well to people he didn't know.
Over the 18 months at the GSPCA Kenya got to know quite a few different people, which has made his confidence blossom and helped him realise that there are lots of nice people in the world.
Over his time at the GSPCA the 7 year old black and white cat began to love sitting on your lap, having a fuss and playing with many toys.
Kenya needed a quieter home due to his temperament and background and recently we found him just that.
It is often difficult to find the shy and nervous cats new homes, but we were over joyed when Mrs Susan Teal came forward with just the right home for Kenya.
Helen Sharman Animal Care Assistant said "We always have shy and nervous cats at the GSPCA and we work hard to try and give them the confidence they need."
"Kenya was very scared when he first arrived in July 2013, but after a lot of TLC he has become much more confident although still needed a quieter home."
"It was fantastic when Mrs Teal came forward offering Kenya a new home."
"Yesterday Mrs Teal adopted Kenya our longest stay cat from the GSPCA and she has renamed him Scully and we will all miss him and we all wish him the very best in his forever home."
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "From strays to those found injured, lost and found to welfare calls we help over a 1000 cats a year at the GSPCA."
"All of the team at the GSPCA love finding an animal that new and forever home, but it is especially wonderful when the team have helped them grow in confidence and find them an owner who is that special someone for an animal that hasn't had the best start in life."
"We really hope that Kenya or should I say Scully and his new Mum have a wonderful new life and we look forward seeing pictures and hearing updates on how he is doing."
"Our longest cat in need of a home is another black and white male cat called Vinnie."
"Vinnie is a cheeky young man from feral origin and he really loves to play."
"Vinnie needs a home ideally with no young children, but would be fine with a female cat around the same age as him."
"Vinnie can be a very busy cat, but so lovable and fun to watch."
"Vinnie loves his cardboard box which he plays in to find treats that we hide and he likes to be on the go most of the time."
"Vinnie will take time to settle into a new home and we would love to find him that forever home."
"It will soon be our 142nd anniversary and as well as celebrating this with our annual GSPCA purple Week we are currently appealing for businesses and individuals to join our Build Partner programme which is our biggest rebuild in our long history."
"To join our Build Partner programme please do not hesitate to contact me or find out more on our website www.gspca.org.gg/page/gspca-exclusive-build-partner."
