Today is that last day of #GSPCAPurpleWeek celebrating 148 years of caring for animals in Guernsey.
Despite the extreme challenges we all face the GSPCA continues to grow to meet the demands of the modern world with enthusiasm, optimism and energy. The role now, as in those early days, of preventing cruelty and promoting kindness to animals, through education, is as strong as ever. So much is achieved - through qualified and dedicated staff, our own welfare officer, wardens, volunteers, friends and supporters throughout the island and through our association with the other animal welfare organisations around the world.
We are completely funded through the generosity of the local community and without donations, monthly giving, legacies and our members we wouldn't be able to help the 1000's of animals every year that come through our doors.
We are a registered charity which is a requirement under Guernsey Law. Our charity number is 003 which makes the GSPCA one of the oldest registered charities in Guernsey and this number was issued by the Association of Guernsey Charities.
As a charitable organisation the GSPCA is headed by a committee that is elected from the membership each year. The committee are members of the GSPCA that bring a variety of skills and expertise to drive the organisation forward and direct their team of staff, volunteers and supporters to help promote kindness and prevent cruelty to animals in Guernsey.
The whole team over the last year have been working on looking to the future with a focus on our strategy, values and our vision for the future and we thought we would share this with you during this very special week.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “With over 148 years of history at the GSPCA we have a past full of stories , challenges and amazing achievements.”

“What came through in abundance was the word ‘caring’ which is what we have set as our key value.”
“Collaborative as in sharing knowledge for excellence and working with our community.”
“Active, we strive to provide a 24/7 service to ensure we do the best we can for animals and our community. Having a proactive approach tackling issues, facilitating solutions.”

“Nurturing, we are nurturing the animals in our care and through our education work to improve a world for all.”
“Grateful, we are grateful to those that support our work, kind towards one another and promoting a caring organization.”
“The GSPCA vision for the future is ‘A community where animals are free from abuse, neglect and abandonment and where people care for and support domestic and wild animals, by working together and learning to ensure a future of compassionate care towards all animals.”
“Today is the last day of #GSPCAPurpleWeek which we hold each year to celebrate our long history and all that we achieve.”
