In recognition of “Adopt a Shelter Pet Day” on April 30th, Le Friquet Garden Centre recently sent two members of their team to the GSPCA (Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) for the day to help out on-site and support their busy operation.

The two members of the garden centre pet department team, Emily Oakes and Isaac Evans, engaged in a number of day to day tasks that the charity carries out for the island including the cleaning of animal housings and walking/grooming resident animals.

They were also kindly shown around the entire site and were shown over the wide array of duties and jobs carried out across the large and growing site.

“The GSPCA are hugely grateful to Le Friquet Garden Centre who support us in so many ways - with it being a busy Spring we really appreciated having the extra pairs of hands at the shelter this week” said Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager.

“With over 500 animals at the GSPCA they were both kept extremely busy, and with animals arriving 24/7 from baby birds to reptiles it’s another exceptionally busy year here.

From family fun days at Le Friquet Garden Centre to donations from their pet sales, donated pumps for a Loggerhead Turtle to donations of animal supplies each month, plants for the memorial garden to being involved with our 5-aside Mascot football at our Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday, we cannot thank them enough for the ways they have helped us here at the GSPCA.”

Isaac Evans, pet department sales assistant said of his experience: "I really enjoyed my time at the GSPCA yesterday, especially helping care for Noodle the cat who is in permanent care of the charity due to his medical history. It was incredible to see the variety of services like this that they have to provide every day that you wouldn't typically expect or hear about."

Le Friquet Garden Centre is proud to support the GSPCA through monthly stock and supply donations, the display of collection tubs and food bins, and additional events & initiatives throughout the year. Le Friquet and the GSPCA will be next collaborating at Le Friquet’s Family Fun Day on Saturday 8th June, a free event organized by Le Friquet to give back to the local island community.
