Earlier this week a kestrel was rescued in St Martins near Magnoila Tree Café.
The very poorly bird was barely moving with her head tucked under her wing which was hanging low covered in an oily substance.
The GSPCA rushed her to Isabelle Vets who on x-raying discovered a break as well as needing specialised bathing.
Maggie as the stunning kestrel has been called is very lucky. She has been bathed and cared for and the is especially lucky as many broken wings in birds of prey cannot be repaired, but thanks to Isabelle Vet Dr Doreen Ford BVMS CertSAS MRCV she has been able to have her wing pinned and she is currently recovering extremely well at the GSPCA before she can go back to the wild.
Her care may take some weeks but she is recovering well after her bathes and operation.
Maggie is just one of over 1500 wild birds we help every year at the GSPCA and one of over 2000 wild animals that come through our care.
We are currently desperately trying to raise funds for a new Wildlife Hospital and we really need your support.

For those wanting to help in much larger ways here are the estimated costs for some of the facilities that make up the £900,000 –
Beckie Bailey GSPCA Animal Care Assistant said “Maggie the kestrel is so lucky not only was she covered in an oily substance, she also had a broken wing.”
“We have managed to clean the oily substance off and Isabelle Vets have done a great job repairing her wing.”
“She will need some care and if anyone would like to donate to her care there are lots of ways like calling 257261 or even online by this link https://giving.gg/donate/charity/2/Guernsey-Society-for-the-Prevention-of-Cruelty-to-Animals-(GSPCA) .”
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Maggie is just one of the thousands of wild animals we help every year at the GSPCA.”
“In the build we are trying to raise funds for there will be specialised rooms and aviaries for birds of prey and we are appealing for donations, those wanting to support this much needed build and for people to kindly Buy a Brick to make this fantastic facility a reality.”
“We have had some amazing donations and have had donated or pledged nearly £80,000 and need to raise a further £820,000.”
“From as little or as much as you can donate, please help us help the wild animals in Guernsey at the GSPCA so wild birds like Maggie the kestrel when found, sick or injured we can then help back to the wild.”
“We all have to try and do the best we can for nature, as man is causing so many issues and problems and this hospital will certainly help secure the future survival of thousands of wild animals in need every year.”
