The GSPCA has had to grow in recent years to meet the demands on our services and ensure the care and rescue of animals in need.
We are also sadly wishing well to two key members of our welfare team as Sarah Langlois moves to the UK and Lorna Chadwick starts a role with the States of Guernsey as an Animal Welfare Officer.
This has led to opportunities within the GSPCA team and what will be a new role as an Animal Care and Welfare Assistant role.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have been celebrating our 151 year history and we are excited to announce we have a number of vacancies become available at the GSPCA including a new role as an Animal Care and Welfare Assistant role.”
“In our 151 years we have seen many incredible team members and sadly we wave off Sarah Langlois very soon to the UK who is off on a new chapter in her life and after 17 years we wave off Lorna Chadwick at the end of the month as she starts after 17 years at the GSPCA a new role as Animal Welfare Officer with eh States of Guernsey.”
“With this sad loss of two incredible team members it does open exciting new opportunities at the GSPCA and with new animal welfare legislation passed earlier this year and exciting time as we have created a new role as an Animal Care and Welfare Assistant.”
“This role is one that will not only help ensure the day to day smooth running at the GSPCA and night duties, but will also offer opportunities to investigate cruelty, neglect and the calls of concern we receive here at the GSPCA.”
“Many welfare calls can be resolved with a bit of advice but each year we deal with very serious concerns that involves working with many organisations and States departments.”
“From rabbits kept in awful conditions to 25 puppies being illegally transported we deal with very investigations that lead to court cases to those that can be resolved with help and advice.”
“You do need to be caring and sympathetic to carry out this role with a strong sense of understanding while being able to be resilient and adaptable to what can be every changing circumstances.”
“For over 150 years the GSPCA have investigated cruelty and neglect to animals and supported our community and education has been a big part in this as it will be in this role.”
“Wem are looking at having a number of team members with this role to work as a team to ensure we can continue to investigate calls of concern, welfare, cruelty and neglect as well as provide advice and education as we have done for so many years.”
“We are also looking for reception team members especially those that can help in the afternoons and weekend hours.”
“From possible full time to part time hours including evening hours we have a range of options available at the GSPCA.”
“The work requires a range of skills as its not all about caring for animals as we help our community to the systems in place for recording the animal details and using online platforms for those lost to those needing homes.”
“We are also always looking for those wishing to sponsor our work and there are a huge range of ways in which to do this.”
“We have some departments that require specific help on weekends especially the hedgehog and wildlife areas, reception and help with maintenance and the animal ambulance.”
“To apply for a paid position please download the application pack below, call 257261 and we can post one out, email [email protected] or pop in to collect a pack.”
"These applications are reviewed regularly depending on the needs of the GSPCA and for the voluntary roles we try our best to get you started as soon as we can."
“We are also looking for additional volunteers and especially an night warden to help on Monday evenings and if you can help please do get in touch.”
