Borneo is a female cat that came into the Shelter via one of our Welfare Officers who found her in a terrible state and obviously in pain and suffering.

When Emma Trousdale picked her up she had with massive growths in her ears that were bleeding and leaking a foul smelling discharge.  Due to her condition she was rushed her straight to the vets.  After a number of weeks at the Shelter,  being referred to a specialist vet and nearly a £1000’s worth of treatment and operations this lovely lady is now ready for a very special home.

Borneo had to endure a lot but has just about pulled through. She has undergone stressful and uncomfortable treatment in an attempt to remove the growths but sadly some of the damage is irreparable She is such a loving cat that has been through so much, all of which could have been prevented if her owner had sought help.

The GSPCA would urge any owner that has a pet to speak to a vet regarding any health issues that may be worrying them as an animal can’t tell you if it is in pain and cats are notoriously good at hiding things. People should also remember that it is an offence to cause unnecessary suffering by withholding veterinary treatment.

Emma Trousdale Welfare and Education Officer said ‘This is the worse case of ear growths I have seen in my career and this poor wee cat would have suffered so much with these lumps and couldn’t really hear anything.’  ‘She is so much better now and I really want to find her a loving new home and hope someone out there will give her the happily ever after she so deserves.’

Borneo’s Treatment

Borneo is going to need life long treatment and we do not know how long she may live for as these lumps may come back.

She should be re-homed as a house cat and needs to be monitored and maintained through daily medication.

She will need to be on:

  • Topical Surolan ear drops at least once a day.
  • She may need oral treatment intermittently
  • She will need an examination every 3-4 months

If she starts to head tilt to one side and becomes down in temperament or looses appetite then her problems may have re-occurred and will need to see the vet again. She can not be treated by an operation as her condition is irreparable.

Costs:

  • £10-11 per month for Surolan
  • £15-20 intermittently for Oral treatment
  • Cost of examination every 3-4 months

Any new owner we would refer to the specialist vet that knows her well.
