On Monday Carter one of our bunnies went to his forever home during what is nationally known as Rabbit Awareness Week.
Every year the GSPCA help nearly 200 wild and domestic rabbits in Guernsey.
Carter is one of many rex rabbits that have come into the GSPCA needing a new home and had been in our care for nearly 3 months.
We currently have 17 rabbits in need and the longest stay are Liquorice and Honey who arrived in the summer last year.
The adopter of Carter is a very experienced rabbit owner and has adopted a rabbit from the Shelter many years ago which had a lovely long life with Lucy Sweet and her family.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said "Across the UK and Channel Islands vets, rescues and pet stores are highlighting the importance of rabbit care for Rabbit Awareness Week."
"We help hundreds of rabbits every year at the GSPCA and you can see many in need of homes next to our duck pond by the car park at the Shelter."
"It is always wonderful when we find one of our rabbits a forever home and for Carter I am sure he will have an amazing life with Lucy Sweet who is his new Mum."
"We have lots of rabbits looking for homes, so please do get in touch if you are thinking of having a hoppy friend."
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "It was a lovely way to start Rabbit Awareness Week finding one of our bunnies a new and forever home."
"Currently we have 17 rabbits in need of a home at the Shelter with some still under assessment to ensure they are fit and healthy before they find a forever home."
"Honey and Liquorice are the longest stay bunnies and both are lovely friendly bunnies that you can see by our duck pond at the GSPCA."
"It is important to ensure you can give a rabbit a good home and all it needs as they require a balanced diet, plenty of room, exercise and good care."
"Too often we see rabbits in tiny dirty hutches or without any company which they really do enjoy."
