States of Guernsey Charitable Giving Review - please take a few minutes to complete the survey

This public consultation by the States of Guernsey is part of the Charitable Giving Review being led by the Policy & Resources Committee in partnership with the Association of Guernsey Charities and the Guernsey Community Foundation.
The purpose of this consultation is to understand the community's views on:
Donating money to charities including payroll giving; and
Payroll giving is a way of giving money to charity direct from an employee's salary. The donation may be entitled to some form of tax relief. For example, in the UK, employees donate to charities direct from their gross pay, i.e. before tax, and the employer pays the donation straight to the chosen charity. In Jersey, the employer deducts the charitable donations from an employee's pay, (the gross salary still declared by the employee for income tax) and the charity claims the tax relief on donations. The latter type of scheme links to the jurisdiction's tax relief limits on charitable donations. In Guernsey, tax relief on charitable donations can be claimed by charities on donations of £500-£5,000 per individual, (£10,000 for a married couple) per calendar year.
The results from this consultation will inform how the States of Guernsey might best work with and support the third sector in the future, with any recommendations to be included in the 2018 Budget Report, to be debated in November 2017.
Members of the public are invited to make submissions by 7 April 2017.

The GSPCA as well as many local organisatios and charities rely heavily on donations to raise the much needed funds to help many parts of the community here in Guernsey and this survey could lead to ways that could benefit charities making more on each valued donation.
At the GSPCA its costs over £1600 to care for the 350 animals at the Shelter and help rescue 1000's every year so every penny helps make a huge difference.
