On Sunday 31st May the GSPCA was out for the first of the Summers events.
The EDABL Seafront Sunday was just the first of many events you can see the GSPCA at in the coming weeks.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We can a lovely day at the EDABL Seafront Sunday raising hundreds of pounds and promoting our work.”
“After the second lock down it was lovely to see so many supporters and a huge thanks to Leighton, Joseph and Dylan for the help running the stall.”
“We have lots of events upcoming and really need help.”
Last Thursday the GSPCA was called during a rising tide to one of the outcrops at Bordeaux Harbour to rescue a snake.
The grey and black photos of the animals were sent to the GSPCA Animal Ambulance Warden Suzy Rose who called the GSPCA Manager and informed the States Vet.
The pictures were scrutinised by many of the team and although some concerns were raised we are here to help animals and a plan was made to venture to the grassy outcrop of rocks when the next low tide occurred during daylight hours.
With the recent hot weather the GSPCA always receives calls and reports from the public that have seen dogs locked in cars, dogs being walked on hot pavements, animals in direct sunlight and we want to remind all pet owners of the real dangers to their pets.
With the warm weather and direct sunlight, dogs and other animals whether in cars or their pens are potentially in a situation where you could kill your pet if it is left, regardless of the situation.
Last night the GPSCA team were called out to the Fairy Ring for a poorly seal pup.
The pup was covered in cuts from a bloody nose to open wounds underneath and for its size very thin.
The seal pup also had a green tag with the number SL109.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Last night the team were called to the Fairy Ring to attend a poorly seal pup.”
“In attendance was Geoff George, Dani and Beckie and as the sun was setting they were pointed to a pup by a kind family out on a walk that was indeed very poorly.”
All this week the GSPCA have been encouraging people to make, bake and sell cake to raise funds for the GSPCA.
The last day of this annual event is this Sunday and we will have gluten free cupcakes on sale at our stall for the EDABL Guernsey Seafront Sunday.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We’ve been having a great week for GSPCA Cupcake Week.”
“A huge thank you to our volunteer Sarah whohas made some incredible cakes for us to sell some of which we will have at our stall at the EDABL Seafront Sunday this weekend.”
A reward has been offered for information leading to the return of 4 pugs that have been missing from the Valnord Hill area of St Peter Port since 29 March 2021.
Three of the dogs are beige and one is black. One dog is very distinctive as due to a birth defect it only has half an ear on one side. At the time of disappearing one of the beige pugs was heavily pregnant and due to give birth any day.
Do your neighbours suddenly have more dogs than usual, or do they have a new pug. Have you been offered a pug puppy in the last 2 months Have you heard an increase in dogs barking?
Monday 24th to Sunday 30th May 2021 is GSPCA Cupcake Week here in Guernsey
Can you make/bake & sell cupcakes to raise money for the GSPCA? By doing so you would be helping many injured and abandoned animals like the seals, turtles, many cats and Pongo the diabetic cat, not to mention the many hedgehogs and baby birds.
This Sunday the GSPCA will once again be on the Seafront for the first of 2021’s big events in St Peter Port.
This Sunday from 10am till 4pm the GSPCA are delighted to say we will be joining the EDABL Seafront Sunday to raise much needed funds and promote the work of the Animal Shelter.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We always have great fun at the Seafront Sundays and not only are we looking forward to the first this weekend, we are appealing for volunteers to help at the first EDABL Seafront Sunday on the 30th May."
