Following the death of a horse in Guernsey the GSPCA would like to draw horse owners attention to information released recently by the States Vet David Chamberlain:
The States Veterinary Officer would like to advise horse owners of the confirmed presence on the Island of the disease Equine Grass Sickness (EGS) which has been confirmed by laboratory analysis at the Animal Health Trust to be the cause of the death of a horse in the last 10 days
At the GSPCA we have had the busiest start to a year with seals and seabirds than the team can remember.
Currently we have 14 guillemots, 1 gannet and 2 seal pups at the Animal Shelter.
As you can imagine they are eating a healthy amount of fish and we really need your support.
From sandeels to sprats, herring and mackerel each animal is eating large numbers to help with their recuperation.
You can donate online through our Just Giving Page, by calling 01481 257261, by post or by popping into the Shelter in St Andrews.
After the success of the recent training at the GSPCA we are planning additional sessions through the year.

In April 2014 Daz Carre will be running the Marathon Des Sables, a 155 mile run through the Sahara Desert which takes place in 100 degree temperatures. This is pretty extreme.
He'll be doing this for the Specsavers Children's Charity and the GSPCA and The Tav has decided to help him out in his fund raising efforts by throwing a party for him - after all, we might not see him again!
The GSPCA and Guernsey Bereavement Service are teaming up for the first time to provide a training session in Pet Bereavement for those working or volunteering in the animal care industry in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
The aim of the evening is to educate the many volunteers and staff across the Bailiwick help those pet owners with the loss of their beloved pet.
The session is set for Wednesday 23rd April 2014 at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
Zoe Le Pelley from the Guernsey Bereavement Service will lead the talk on the following subjects:
Robin is a male adult stray cat that came in extremely thin with multiple health problems.
When first found he even smelt as though he had been living out of a bin for some time.
With no owner found, Robin who has a lovely nature is in desperate need for your help and requires major surgery on his head to remove growths from both ears.
Anna Paint Senior Animal Care Assistant said 'Robin is adorable and has been through a lot already and we now need help to get his ears operated on.'

Last year the GSPCA were nominated for the 'Charity of the Year Award' at the Community Awards and we would like to ask you if you would vote for us this for 2013 as the Awards are now open.
Whether it is a fundraising project run by a local charity, a group of individuals or a team from a local business, or simply individual members of the public who feel motivated to do something for charity, Guernsey has an exceptional ability to raise money and contribute many man hours to the voluntary and community sector.
