24 hours a day, 7 days a week staff and volunteers work around the clock at the GSPCA to ensure the animals are cared for and those in need can be rescued around Guernsey.
One of the wonderful additions that has benefited many animals at the Shelter has been our Wish List which we have both on our website and a link to an Amazon Wish List.
Since launching our Amazon Wish List in October 2012 nearly every week we have had wonderful donations from honey for the hedgehogs to heat lamps to keep those ill nice and warm.
With less than two months to Christmas we are asking Businesses and Work Places if you could home a counter box for the GSPCA.
We have Season Greetings Robin Pin Badges that need homes this Christmas for a minimum donation of £2 each.
We are thankful to those that already support us with Counter and Collection Boxes that raise funds for the GSPCA.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'It costs over £2000 a day to ensure that we can help the thousands of animals that come through our doors every year.'
For the second year the GSPCA has tickets for the Channel Islands Christmas Lottery on sale at the Animal Shelter reception desk.
The new tickets which are only £2 each are on sale and each have two numbers on and a scratch card section.
Stilton the Lop Eared Bunny modeling the tickets pictured is looking for a new home and is just one of the many animals you would help by purchasing your tickets from the Animal Shelter.
This Christmas Day GSPCA staff and supporters took time out of their festive day to take the plunge in the icy waters dressed as Polar Bears.
The GSPCA must thank Guernsey Swimming Club for letting us join in their day which they arrange every year.
Here is a short video of some of the brave dippers
This Christmas another turkey decided to skip the Christmas table by escaping.
On Christmas Eve Cranberry joined the team at the GSPCA Animal Shelter after being found straying in L'Ancresse.
This is the third year in a row the GSPCA has had stray turkeys brought in to the Shelter and if you are missing any animal then the GSPCA would urge you to get in touch as we have had a number of strays in over the festive period.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said 'We really can't believe it!'
The GSPCA hope everyone received everything they wanted at Christmas but if you didn't why not drop your unwanted gifts off at the GSPCA Pop Up Shop in Smith Street below OSA Recruitment and pick up a bargain while you are there.
With everything from bric-a-brac to pet supplies Helen Holmes and volunteers will be manning the shop until the end of the year to help raise funds for the GSPCA and animals in Guernsey.
Helen Holmes Shop Manager said 'If you're out and about shopping in the sales why not call in and drop off any unwanted gifts.'
Christmas is a wonderful time of year – but not always for your pets!
Every year the GSPCA has reported incidents of pets putting their safety at risk.
Here are some tips from the GSPCA to keep your pets safe. Please keep them away from -
Alcoholic beverages
Chocolate (highly toxic to pets)
Coffee
Mouldy or spoiled foods (please ensure all waste is disposed of and stored safely away from your pets)
Salt
Chicken or Turkey bones (as they can splinter)
Today the GSPCA can officially announce that the GSPCA Pop Up Charity Shop will be on Smith Street thanks to OSA Recruitment until and including the 31st December.
The GSPCA has been in the shop since Monday 17th December manned by Helen Holmes and her team of volunteers.
The shop has stock from pet goods to bric-a-brac, kids games to squeaky toys, GSPCA Mugs to t-shirts, cat stockings to dog cracker bones and this morning had a fresh delivery of stock.
Helen Holmes Pop Up Shop Manager said 'It's been great so far, but we are waiting for the last minute panic buyers.'
This evening please pop along and support the GSPCA stall and shop fund raising to help animals in Guernsey.
We will have our stall on the Pollet as well as late night opening at our Pop Up Shop at the top of Smith Street thanks to OSA Recruitment.
Handing out lolly pops and raising funds will be some of the Giant Animal Mascots that you may know from the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday held back in September.
This morning the doors opened to the GSPCA Pop Up Charity Shop in Smith Street thanks to OSA Recruitment.
Staff and volunteers will be manning the shop daily between 9am and 5.30pm with extended hours on Thursday for the late night shopping.
As you enter the shop we have a Christmas Tree which was donated by Le Friquet Garden Centre.
On the tree are holograms in shapes of animals which can be bought by the till and are to remember past pets.
The holograms are only £1 each and all proceeds will help raise funds for the GSPCA and animals in Guernsey.
