On the 8th September the GSPCA were invited along to the Environment Hustings to talk to the Candidates standing in the 2020 Election.
Steve Byrne GSPCA attended the event that took place at Les Cotils.
As it was the Environment Hustings the topics discussed were focused on the theme, but the GSPCA daily face a huge range of challenges. Some of these discussed included –
Meet one of our residents ‘Hi I’m Sam JR
I was dumped at Chouet tip, I couldn’t stand, my crown all burnt and I smelt pretty bad too! Matt Hill-Smith The GSPCA’s night warden collected me and took me straight to the GSPCA
The next morning I went to the vets, my future did not look very promising but the team at the GSPCA and RI vet team wanted to give me a chance! So I started my medication and within a week the difference, I could start walking!!!! I was a happy cockerel again!
Look at me now, I’m fabulous!!!!
POSTPONNED Element 6 Raising at The Wicked Wolf
On Saturday 26th September 2020 Sidneys Sponsored Events were kindly going to run a fundraiser at the Wicked Wolf in aid of the GSPCA and Guernsey Chest and Heart.
Sadly this has had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, however Corinne and the team are working hard at looking at other events and please keep an eye on our and their social media for upcoming exciting details – https://www.facebook.com/Sidneysfundraising
Once again there will be a fun dog show at the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday.
Judging starts at 1230pm with registration from 11am with the show ring located on the Crown Pier.
This is always a fabulous, fun, highlight of this special day and is open to any breed of dog.
The classes this year include -
Next Sunday (13th September) if you can help volunteer or have a vehicle you could help us transport goods we would love to hear from you.
We are planning to pack a number of vans in preparation this Friday ready to drive down for our Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday from 7am.
If you could lend a van, especially a luton or large transit we would really appreciate it.
Every year it is a huge logistical challenge to transport the many tents, goods and animals from the GSPCA into St Peter Port.
With over 300 animals in our care we are extremely busy at the GSPCA and are appealing for blankets and especially towels to help to provide them with bedding, to help with handling and drying off.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We use hundreds of towels and blankets every day at the GSPCA and our 4 laundry machines are on around the clock."
"As towels and blankets are used they can get torn by the animals or for those used in isolation or quarantine areas may have to be disposed of for medical reasons."
At the GSPCA we are normally appealing for homes for animals, but we are currently appealing for your unwanted soft toys.
The cuddly toys we are appealing for will found good homes as prizes on some of our games to help raise funds for the Shelter such as our upcoming Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday.
If you have any unwanted soft toys then please pop them up to the Shelter or if you need a vehicle to pick up quite a few then please let us know and we can arrange collection.
Can your team take the trophy off the Plough Inn?
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Once again we will be holding a Giant Animal Mascot event as part of our Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday celebrations.”
“This is open to mascots and individuals prepared to dress as an animal and play a fun football game with a rather over sized ball.”
“We are asking businesses, pubs, individuals or anyone as a team of 5 or an individual and we can make extra teams on the day.”
With just a week to go the GSPCA are busy preparing for the ninth Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday.
In recent years we have seen just over 100 stalls at our biggest event of the year but with 100 already booked in it looks like it will be the BIGGEST yet.
We would be delighted if any other stalls or buskers would like to join us to help celebrate animals in Guernsey.
