On Fish Friday last week the wonderful and generous Waitrose Rohais staff and store helped once again towards Olivia the loggerhead turtle.
Since she started eating on her own just over 2 weeks ago she is now keen to eat all she can.
Every Friday if you have a My Waitrose card the fresh fish counters in Waitrose offer a 20% discount. On Fish Friday last week Waitrose Rohais not only donated a further 4kg of squid for Olivia the amazing staff also chipped in for a further 4kgs to help feed the loggerhead turtle at the GSPCA.
Last night Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager and a number of visitors went to turn Olivia the Loggerhead Turtles lights off and witnessed an extraordinary event.
When she was first rescued she was extremely close to death and barely breathing or moving. Over the last two months the GSPCA have been working hard to care for her but sadly she has refused to eat meaning that the team have had to feed her directly.
She continues to swim well and we continue to appeal for funding and transportation to get her to the Canary Islands.
Olivia needs your help.
Two months on and Olivia the loggerhead turtle that was found extremely close to death when she was rescued on Vazon has come to a point where she is now ready to take the next big step.
When she was found she could hardly move as she was so cold, hungry, dehydrated and weak. She is now swimming well and we now need to find her transportation to the Canary Islands.
The next big step for Olivia is to get her back to a warmer climate and a rescue centre with experience to finish her rehabilitation.

Earlier this month a wonderful lady made a wonderful donation to help animals here in Guernsey.
Sam Reoch through her Helping Animals 2016 facebook page and her fantastic hard work to raise funds for animals both locally and abroad raised and donated an amazing £100 for those at the GSPCA.
This fantastic sum was raised through a hamper, hand made heart cushions and donation from Sam and the supporters of the page.
On Friday the GSPCA were asked to pop into the Homemaker Co-op in St Sampsons for a very kind donation.
Between the 7th and 14th November the staff ran a competition to name a French Bulldog Speaker and on the 14th held a cake sale (click here to see the story).
The grand total raised was an amazing £162.00p and from all at the GSPCA a huge thank you
On 14th of this month homemaker the Co-op Homemaker store are having a cake sale in aid of GSPCA.
In the run up to the event all this week they are asking people to guess the name of the dog, again with all proceeds to the GSPCA.
The dog is actually a speaker shaped as a French bull dog which the GSPCA have seen quite a few from Slovakia recently.
To see all about the speaker please click here.
At the GSPCA we are extremely thankful for all of the wonderful donations for the 25 dogs and many other animals in our care.
We are also extremely grateful to Co-op Homemaker who have volunteered to be a drop off location for donations.
We are currently appealing for donations of towels and funds to help care for the many animals at the GSPCA."
If you cannot make it to the GSPCA in St Andrews please do pop your donations to the wonderful Homemaker team who will ensure they are passed on to the Animal Shleter.
Last week at the GSPCA we received a wonderful donation.
30 home made purple fleecy blankets were dropped off with a wonderful card.
The blankets which are ideal for our cats are very comfy and warm and also very easy to wash and dry.
All of the team would like to pass on a special thanks to Linda Laine who made them on her sewing machine.
The first cat to be given one of the fleecy cosy blankets was Socks a young male tabby and white cat who was very grateful and really enjoyed the gift.
