This morning the GSPCA have been devastated to find that Rocco the Jersey grey seal pup who was rescued on Sunday by the BDMLR team, arrived in Guernsey on Tuesday and has been under the care of the team and the vets passed away in the early hours of this morning.

Rocco was rescued the same afternoon that Sami the Jersey seal pup was released back in her home waters.

This is the first ever grey seal pup the GSPCA has had rescued and come into care in the middle of the summer which is extremely unseasonal and never been seen before.

Grey seal pup rescued hours after Sami is released in Jersey by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue Medics on route to GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 13:31, 20th Jun, 2017 | 0

On Sunday the team all enjoyed releasing Sami the seal pup back into Jersey waters near to where she was rescued back in December.

No-one could have forseen that the Jersey British Divers Marine Life Rescue team who helped Sami and watched her swim free would hours later be rescuing another grey seal pup in need at such an unseasonal time of year.

The young pup has a number of health problems, a lot of nasal discharge and very underweight for its age so has been in the care of New Era Vets and is currently on route to the GSPCA.

Sami a grey seal pup was rescued on a beach in Jersey just after Christmas starving and unwell and the GSPCA are hugely grateful to SandpiperCI who are kindly helping with her care.

If Sami hadn’t have been rescued by the JSPCA and BDMLR volunteers she would have certainly perished.

Nearly three months on from her rescue we the team at the GSPCA can’t believe how much she has grown and how great her appetite now is after her near death experience.
