Last night we held the third volunteer induction of 2017 at the GSPCA and saw another packed room of 15 new helpers keen to learn how they can get involved with us here at the Animal Shelter adding to the 47 inducted this year taking this years inducted volunteers to a total of 62 not including others that have helped from businesses, groups and other organisations.
In the last week the GSPCA have had a number of calls of dogs worrying livestock and not under control in public places.
During Spring many farm and wild animals are preparing to give birth or nest and dogs not kept under control can really put these animals and their young at risk.
Over the last few days the GSPCA have been out daily to sheep that have escaped from fields and some have been as a direct result to dogs being out with no owner in sight chasing the animals from their enclosures.
We are pleased to report that thanks to the media coverage from the stray chickens found at Beau Sejour they are now back home with their owners.
The birds had been missing for some days and the owners had tried to locate them and when they saw them in the recent media coverage they came straight up to the Shelter and the birds are now happy and back home where they belong.
On Saturday 18th February a team of staff from Source Recruitment arrived at the GSPCA to help around the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
The GSPCA are extremely grateful to Source Recruitment as not only did they do a great deal to help at the Shelter but they have also recently joined the GSPCA as a Silver Angel Pen Pal Sponsor and so help support the many animals in our care.
We are pleased to report that Catrina the cat continues to improve although she is still under the care of the vets.
Sadly as no owner has come forward for Catrina in the 21 days required under Guernsey law. The job we have now at the GSPCA with the help of Isabelle Vets is to get her well and strong enough to find her a home.
World Wildlife Day is an opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that conservation provides to people.
At the same time, the Day reminds us of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime, which has wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts. Wildlife has an intrinsic value and contributes to the ecological, genetic, social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, recreational and aesthetic aspects of sustainable development and human well-being.
The GSPCA were recently approached by Rhianna Trump and Cara Lenfestey who are both 12 and go to Guernsey Grammar and Sixth Form Centre. Rhianna and Cara have set up their very own company called Trick'n'Treat and are supporting the GSPCA through the sales of their products as part of the Student Business Challenge. Here is a list of some of their range on sale which you can purchase some on sale at the GSPCA:
