On Sunday 17th April at 9.30am Creature Comforts Pet Store with Island FM are asking all dog owners to come together and help raise money for Guernsey Animal Aid and the GSPCA.
Island FM and Creature Comforts would like you and your dog to join them for a brisk walk……
The walk will start at Liberation Monument at 9.30am, walking along the sea front towards Bulwer Avenue then returning to town.
Goodie bags and water will be provided.
Last week Guernsey Gifts were in the OSA Recruitment Pop Up Shop.
They were stocking a wide range of locally inspired and created souvenirs, greetings cards, towels, t-shirts and more.
Whilst they were there they were helping raise funds for the many animals at the GSPCA.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We'd like to thank Carolyn Amer from Guernsey Gifts for the wonderful donation of £50 which she raised through the sale of her goods at the OSA Pop Up Shop in Smith Street."
Yesterday a number of the GSPCA team attended Le Foulon Chapel to remember Peter Francis Brehaut at his funeral service who sadly passed away on the 9th March 2016 at the age of 59 years.
Pete joined the GSPCA in July of 2015 and had been helping nearly 4 mornings each and every week for 8 months. He was really appreciated by all of the team for his hard work and dedication.
Pete always enjoyed working with the ferrets the most and also enjoyed a nice sun rise when they occurred on his way into the Shelter.
On Tuesday a very poorly baby hedgehog or hoglet was brought into the GSPCA.
At only 3 to 4 weeks of age 'Diddy' as she's been named was covered in mange, very thin and also full of fly eggs and tiny maggots.
On arrival GSPCA staff Sarah Ozanne and Geoff George were on hand to help care for and clean off the fly eggs and maggots.
For the first few days the tiny hoglet was very weak and was taken home by Sarah to care for around the clock.
Nearly a week on and we are pleased to say that Diddy is doing well and growing stronger each day.
On Good Friday and Easter Saturday the GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne with the Easter Bunny held two fun events for groups of children with their parents.
With over 35 children taking part over the two days the families got to see behind the scenes at the GSPCA as well as learning all about rabbits and their care.
Each child on arrival received a Treasure Hunt bunny sheet, a lollipop, GSPCA sticker and pen. They then had a picture with the Easter Bunny at the front of the Shelter before being shown around the site in St Andrews.
Nearly two months on and Bonnie the injured seal pup who was found close to death certainly isn't as skinny any more.
Bonnie since the GSPCA rescued her from the base of a cliff on the south coast towards the end of January despite an early struggle to get weight on her has now nearly doubled her size.
At just 14kgs when she was carried off the beach and up a steep cliff was extremely weak and emaciated. Today she was weighed and totals just short of 26kgs which the team at the GSPCA are overwhelmed with joy in her progress.
We are pleased to announce that Aoife and Mike are up to £481 raised towards their upcoming challenge and continue to appeal for your support.
On the 19th June they will undertake the Guernsey Dairy Half Marathon and are raising funds to help the many animals at the GSPCA.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Aoife and Mike popped in to see us in February for a chat and it is wonderful that they have chosen the GSPCA as their charity of choice with what I am sure will be no easy challenge."
After 13 years at the GSPCA the team waved Inez Rawcliffe a fond farewell into her retirement on Monday.
Inez who has primarily worked in the Boarding Cat Department has helped all around the GSPCA and has been a fantastic member of the team.
Inez has worked 3 mornings on 3 off opposite Collette Pattimore and has always been a caring and wonderful GSPCA Animal Care Assistant and will be sorely missed.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Inez has been a real rock for us here at the GSPCA always reliable, caring and hard working and we will all miss her greatly."
On the 17th March a stray bunny was rescued in St Sampsons and brought into the GSPCA.
The male tan/ginger lop eared rabbit was found near the filter box close to St Sampsons High School.
The team have called the bunny who is quite large and very sweet 'Max'.
We are appealing for the owner of the rabbit to please get in touch with the GSPCA on 01481 257261 or email [email protected]
