UPDATE Aurore the Jersey seal pup sheds his white coat

Aurore was rescued in Jersey on the 23rd October by British Divers Marine Life Rescue after the poorly pup was reported to the JSPCA who passed on the details to the specialist rescue team.

20 New Dog First Aiders thanks to the GSPCA and Cat First Aid Course next Wednesday

Last night the GSPCA held its first Dog First Aid Course in 2 years and next week is the Cat First aid Course.

Taking the course was be GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who has over 24 years working in the field of animal rescue and with over 3000 animals through the doors every year at the GSPCA the team see cases of animal first aid on a daily basis here in Guernsey.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have been running dog and cat first aid courses for over seven years and with the 20 attendees last night we have trained over 320 participants to help save animals lives.”

GSPCA helping RSPCA cats thanks to Condor Ferries

At the GSPCA we help 1000’s of cats every year but the numbers looking for homes have been decreasing over the years.

This has meant from time to time we have space in our cat pens and when we are able we help charities which are members of the Association of Cats and Dogs Home (ADCH) which are based across the British Isles and Ireland.

On Friday 29th October 2021 the GSPCA helped 5 cats from the RSPCA in Wales which were in need.

Waitrose and Partners Admiral Park Give a little Local Love to the GSPCA helping animals in need

Last week Community Matters Vanessa Gillease from Waitrose and Partners Admiral Park popped along to the GSPCA.

Vanessa said “Our Give a Little Local Love scheme at Admiral Park is dedicated to helping local causes.”

“The GSPCA has been selected by Waitrose Admiral Park to be supported through our Give a Little Local Love scheme.”  

“Following a vote from our Partners they would like you to purchase a Small Intensive Care Unit, a Bird cage for hand rears and the balance to be used to purchase feed for the Seal Pups and Hoglets.”

‘Purple Poppy Campaign’ Wear yours with your Red Poppy to remember animal victims of warfare

The GSPCA have Purple Poppies on sale at our front desk.

Organised by Linda Laine and kindly made by Sally Johnson, Ruby Dodd, Sue Queripel, Christa Tee, Sue Haggarty and Odile Davy who all adore animals and are asking the community to ‘Please wear your purple poppy alongside your red poppy’.

On sale at the GSPCA and a number of other locations for a minimum donation of £1 the proceeds will help animals in Guernsey.

Our opening hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sunday.

GSPCA ADVICE Protect your birds from H5N1 avian influenza

The GSPCA are urging bird owners to protect their pets and flocks.

With growing numbers of cases of H5N1 avian influenza throughout the UK their Animal & Plant Department Agency have been sending out notifications of new cases in both wild and domestic birds with the most recent case in Chirk, Wrexham.

Recently the States of Guernsey States Vets sent these details to poultry owners -

FIREWORK ADVICE FROM THE GSPCA & DON'T FORGET TO NOTIFY THE STATES ABOUT YOUR CELEBRATIONS

With a busy firework period fast approaching the GSPCA would like to remind everyone of the notifications to help those affected by the loud bangs and safety information for pet owners.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “With many firework displays confirmed already for the coming days we are reminding all pet and animal owners to do what they can to ensure they are safe, well and cared for.”

“The loud bangs and bright lights can often scare animals and we often see an increase in escaped animals during these periods.”

Every year many children with parents or guardians head out at Halloween on the 31st October dressed up to celebrate the American tradition of 'Trick or Treat'.

With the growing concern of the consumption of sweets and sugar why not this Halloween raise funds for charity.

With the dark evenings it is important to ensure you follow some simple safety hints and tips, but this year could your Halloween night out help benefit the hundreds of animals in need in Guernsey.

The Spooktacular Ladies Luncheon takes place at Les Cotils at 12pm Sunday 31st October 2021

£35 per person includes a welcome drink, 3 course lunch and charity donations.

The event is raising funds for the GSPCA and Young Lives Vs Cancer.
