This weekend we welcomed Islanders to our first of the two planned guided tour events. The sun was shining and the three tours were received extremely well.
The visitors were walked around the Shelter being shown the facilities and getting close to the 200 resident animals and birds.
The tour started in the newly refurbished wildlife unit and went to each of the Shelters departments meeting staff and volunteers whilst finding out what we do and our plans for the future.
The GSPCA have cats in to the Shelter nearly every day of the year. They come in as ferals, strays, unwanted, rescues, new born kittens, road traffic accidents as well as many other reasons.
Many of the cats that are for rehoming often only stay with us for a matter of weeks before they find a new loving owner.
Gizmo came in on the 26th January 2011 and the GSPCA are hoping to find her a home before she becomes the only animal in the Shelter that has been here for what will be over a year.
The GSPCA deals with hundreds of animals every year looking for homes. Normally dogs cats and rabbits are the main species we have for rehoming.
On the rare occasion we get in some larger animals and to start 2012 we have one of those times.
Dizzy and Naomi are two wonderful donkeys looking for a loving retirement home.
They came into the Shelter as their previous owner could no longer care for them.
Naomi is the quieter of the two and enjoys a simple head rub and some gentle fuss.
