At the GSPCA we see all sorts of strays and yesterday we were handed a stray conure that was found on Burnt Lane exhausted.
The team at the GSPCA have named the green, black and red bird 'Bert' who is recovering well from his or her ordeal.
He or she is possibly a red or maroon bellied conure and is an adult bird with no ring for identification.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said "The stray conure was exhausted when rescued and brought to us yesterday, but is recovering well and very chirpy now."
Cats are hugely popular in Guernsey with around 10,000 sharing our homes and Island.
Every cat owner, at least once and often in the middle of the night has stepped into a pile of something that looks and feels like anything but hair and wondered, "Does my cat do this on purpose?!" The answer is no they don't and in fact, hairballs are the number one health condition reported by 35% of cat-owning households.
Is your household one of them? If so, there is help with a variety of diets on the market that can help.
What are Hairballs?
On Wednesday the team at the GSPCA were handed a shelled stray.
'Penny' as staff and volunteers have named the female, adult Herman's tortoise was found on Epinel Road in St. Sampsons.
Each year we see around 30 stray tortoise handed into the GSPCA and we find the owners for nearly every one.
Thankfully she is safe and warm at the GSPCA, but we are appealing for the owner to come forward.
If you think that this may be your lost tortoise then please call the GSPCA on 257261 or pop into the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
Yesterday we held a land mark event at the GSPCA.
For the first time in our 142 year history we celebrated the Topping Out of the biggest build project in our long history.
Mrs Lynda Walker, wife of our patron Lieutenant Governor Peter Walker, was the guest of honour to the event.
The GSPCA Trustees and team also invited supporters, local press and Build Partners to the Topping Out Ceremony.
As Spring sets in the GSPCA see a sharp increase in the number of animals coming into the Shelter and needing to be rescued.
Yesterday we were called out to an address in St Peter Port where a cat had found itself stuck high up in a tree since Sunday.
Geoff George Animal Collection Officer arrived at the scene Tuesday morning and after making an assessment he called a colleague, Annie Janes GSPCA Animal Care Assistant to assist with additional equipment.
Tomorrow we welcome our Exclusive Build Partners to the first ceremony of our new multi purpose animal welfare building.
Tomorrow between 9am and 7pm the GSPCA will be at the Careers Show at Beau Sejour.
At our stand we will have members of our team to chat about working for the GSPCA and also the many volunteer opportunities.
Not only will there be members of our team through the day, we will also have a few shelled four legged friends.
