Doretta our longest stay rabbit hops off to her happy forever home

Submitted by Steve on 13:08, 26th Nov, 2014 | 0

Today staff at the GSPCA were overjoyed to wave off Doretta the longest stay rabbit to her new home.

Doretta was brought into the GSPCA for rehomng on the 5th December 2012, which means she has been in need of a loving home for nearly 2 years.

Doretta has seen many rabbits come and go with nearly 200 passing through the Shelter during her time, but today it was her turn.

Doretta has lived out in a pen over looking our pond on Bunny Hop Hill at the GSPCA and has had a lovely time.

Update on the search for Bertie & to download a poster to help in the search (Wednesday 26th November)

Submitted by Steve on 11:38, 26th Nov, 2014 | 0

Although in the last 24 hours we have had no 100% confirmed sightings of Bertie, the day before yesterday in the morning there was a possible sighting near to his home on La Hure Mare Road just off Route Summerfield, which could mean that he may be very close to his home.

We did have a call of a possible stray dog last night in the Perelle area, which could have been Bertie, but we still have no pictures to confirm it was him.

Submitted by Steve on 15:32, 25th Nov, 2014 | 0

With Autumn and Winter upon us it is always a difficult time for hedgehogs.

Last week the GSPCA Ambulance Collection Officer Geoff George was called out to a hedgehog that was trapped in a drain in Castel.

Lamar as she has been called was rushed to the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews where she is being cared for and monitored.

Thankfully she had no major injuries, although a little thin the hedgehog team are keeping a watchful eye on her.

Update - The search for Bertie continues

Submitted by Steve on 16:22, 19th Nov, 2014 | 0

Earlier today we were all very excited with a possible report of Bertie out in the day in a garden, but sadly it wasn't him and the dog that it turned out to be is soon to be back with its owner.

Despite staff, volunteers and the wonderful public who are watching out for Bertie we have not had a firm report in the last 36 hours, although there was a possible sighting at Barras Lane in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Most recent sightings have been around the Grandes Rocque area and near St Sampson's High School.

Submitted by Steve on 13:22, 19th Nov, 2014 | 0

The last few Winters have been extremely wet and the GSPCA each year we receive large number of calls from concerned members of public about horses and other animals in wet and muddy fields.

Unfortunately due to the current wet autumn we are having to endure here in Guernsey we want to help prepare those with animals in fields.

Sarah Creasey GSPCA Animal Welfare and education Officer said "Last Winter we had long sustained very wet periods with many animals are being affected."
