The GSPCA during hot weather often receive reports from concerned members of the public that have seen dogs locked in cars and the recent few days have been no different
The GSPCA team have been out to a number of vehicles with reports of dogs locked inside with little or no ventilation.
With the warm weather and direct sunlight, dogs in cars are potentially in a situation where you could kill your pet if it is left, regardless of the situation.
As the weather become increasingly warmer, people in Guernsey are being reminded not to leave their dogs alone in a car on a warm day.
Many people may think that it’s ok to leave a dog in a car on a warm day if the windows are left open or they’re parked in the shade, but the truth is, it’s still a very dangerous situation for the dog. Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager said:
“It can get unbearably hot in a car on a sunny day, even when it’s not that warm. When it’s 22 degrees outside, the temperature inside a car can soar to 47 degrees within an hour.”
Last Wednesday we had our second Volunteer Induction Evening which was even more popular than the first.
With 24 in attendance and 18 wanting to sign up as volunteers the GSPCA welcomed the group into the family.
From those wanting to help muck out to those wanting to fund raise they arrived and were welcomed at the Shelter before having a presentation and talk about the work we carry out as well as an Induction to enable them to work safely at the Shelter and during our events.
On Saturday Roy Cochrane held a talk and slide show at Les Coutils about Guernsey Changes.
Over 40 tickets were sold and all enjoyed a cream tea as well as a raffle.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant popped down from the GSPCA said 'What a lovely afternoon.'
'Roy did a great talk and we are extremely grateful to him for donating the proceeds from the day to the GSPCA.'
