Today the GSPCA Animal Shelter welcomed 12 volunteers from Richmond Group for the day.
Staff from Richmond spent the day helping in all areas of work that the Shelter carries out from the hedgehogs to guinea pigs, dogs to cats, feeding baby birds to socialising ferrets.
Not only did the staff help with caring for the animals they also helped with preparing the new outdoor runs that the Shelter has just constructed to acclimatise the wildlife especially the hedgehogs before they are released back into the wild.
Betty, Jo and Sally spent the morning scrubbing out kennels, while Mike, Myra and Emily were busy cleaning out the cats and their litter trays. Sally, Jaques and Katie cleaned and cared for the hedgehogs and Kelly, Karen and Liz all started the day cleaning the many rabbits, guinea pigs, baby birds and ferrets.
After the morning clean the group got the chance to go for a long dog walk and spend lots of time in the fresh air exercising them around the Shelter.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said ‘It has been a great day.’ ‘We have so many animals at the Shelter that need to be cared for and the Richmond Group staff were a fantastic help and we are so grateful for all of their help today.’
Before they all went home Steve said thank you to them all and everyone said that they had a wonderful day. The Shelter is looking forward to some of the group coming back to the Animal Shelter to help as volunteers adn the Richmond Group will be sending more staff to help in the future which the GSPCA are very grateful for.
