Last night we held our tenth volunteer induction of 2018 and welcomed 14 new volunteers taking the 2018 total to 132 new volunteers, placements and work experience since the start of the year inducted during these events.

Within the room there were volunteers of all ages and backgrounds from one looking to carry out her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh placement at the GSPCA to a mother and son looking to volunteer in the GSPCA Charity Shop. One volunteer attended looking to help with our Ambulance to those wanting to help with gardening and cake baking.  Most were keen to help with the animals and we have 4 new volunteers from the Duke of Richmond keen to help both in their work time during their volunteer days and in their own time when they can.

The volunteers had an induction with GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who had to multi task with the injured animals arriving so the group got to see an induction video and then each had a chance to chat to Steve about how and when they can help.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It was lovely to meet all 14 new volunteers last night at the GSPCA.”

“They are all so keen and all are starting over the next two weeks with the first who has started this morning on the kennels.”

“In 2018 we have inducted 132 volunteers through our official inductions and over 160 through corporate social responsibility days, 20 voluntourists and over 140 placements through other schemes from the Probation Service to Work to Benefit, School Group helpers to individual volunteer inductions as well as many others.”

“We are blessed with an average 120 placements, volunteers and helpers every week, without which we couldn’t do so much but with more animals than we have ever had this Summer has been extremely challenging at the GSPCA.”

“Every month we run volunteer inductions and the next takes place at 6.30pm on Monday 1st October at the Shelter.”

“At last nights induction we also welcomed staff from the Duke of Richmond who are keen to help and we always love to hear from businesses looking to help at the GSPCA.”

“A huge thanks to all attended last night and we look forward getting all involved in the areas they are interested in helping at the GSPCA.”

The next induction is on Monday 1st October at 6.30pm and all are welcome, although for those wanting to help onsite at the Shelter the minimum age is 13.

For volunteers under 13 we have a huge amount of events taking place which they can help at with a parent or guardian.
