All this year at the GSPCA we have been celebrating 150 years - https://www.gspca.org.gg/page/gspca-celebrating-150-year
As part of the celebrations we have held a range of events and on Wednesday we held our last Dog First Aid Cours of 2023.
For over a decade we have been running dog and cat first aid courses which help teach owners and pet lovers how to save the life of their pet or animal.
The next GSPCA Dog First Aid Course will take place in 2024 and our next Cat First Aid Course is tomorrow - Wednesday 15th November.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who has over 25 years working in the field of animal rescue runs the training and with over 3000 animals through the doors every year at the GSPCA the team see cases of animal first aid on a daily basis here in Guernsey.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “All year we have been running a range of events to celebrate our 150th year and this month we are held and holding further Dog and Cat First Aid Courses.”
“Last Wednesday we greeted 13 trainee first aiders who learnt all about saving a dogs life.”
“It was a wonderful evening and we must thank all that attended.”
“As well as learning CPR to stopping a dog choking they got a few goodies to take home.”
“The next GSPCA Cat First Aid Course is tomorrow Wednesday 15th November.”
“From Police Officers to GSPCA team members, members of the public to an assistance dog we have trained a real variety of individuals wanting to learn how to save dogs lives.”
“Those that have attended learnt to save dogs, cats and other animals lives and although we hope those attending never have to use the skills at least they will now have the knowledge of what to do in many circumstances.”
“We have been running dog and cat first aid courses for over seven years and have trained nearly 400 participants to help save animals lives.”
"We have ‘Casper’ who is our model first aid dog a bit like the Annie doll many may know for humans and he is a great way to show and learn how to carry out CPR on an unconscious dog."
“From dealing with a dogs and cats chocking to heat stroke we cover a huge range of topics and life saving techniques that could really help save a pets life.”
“We always hope that the skills learned will not be needed but we have been told of circumstances of these skills helping in real life situations.”
"As owners of pets our worst fear is not knowing what to do if our four legged friend has an injury and this training helps pet owners learn and understand ways to help save your pets life."
“It is £25 per person and you can book online or call 257261.”
“A huge thank you to all that supported and we look forward seeing those keen to learn in the upcoming events.”

"Due to the storm we have launched an Urgent Appeal for funds due to the damage as we need to clear fallen trees and build new enclosures which can be seen by going to https://www.gspca.org.gg/blog/gspca-launches-urgent-fundraising-appeal-wake-storm-ciaran .”
“As well as funds we really need a couple of portakabins to house some of the displaced animals until we can build new enclosures and also ahead of our BIG BUILD.”
