Over 3 months since going missing we continue to search for Bertie the missing Schnauzer.
Up until the early hours of yesterday morning and despite using a number of wildlife cameras, sightings have been sketchy at best of Bertie until the report we received at 1.15am on Tuesday.
Just after midnight we had what sounds like a very positive report, and both the spotter and friends, as well as GSPCA wardens spent some time in the early hours looking for possible signs of the missing dog.
We have no pictures to confirm it was him, but if you are in and around the L'Islet area we ask for you to report any possible movements of a loose dog.
The main sightings and possible signs have been in the North of Guernsey, although most were prior to 3 weeks ago.
The sightings continue to appear late at night or early hours of the morning, and with nervous dogs that are stray this can often be the case.
We continue to work closely with Clive and Lynn McMinn to help in the search of their dog Bertie and we all appreciate the wonderful public support.
We would like to highlight that Bertie is a very timid little lad, especially with men and people he doesn't know.
If you do spot him then please call us at the GSPCA on 01481 257261
Please do not approach or try to catch him as it is likely to scare him away and not help with his safe capture.
If he is in a secure area where you can close a gate or door then please do so and give us a call at the Shelter.
With all reports the time, location and direction of movement is extremely important.
If you are able to get a picture or video clip this would be extremely helpful.
At the GSPCA we have team members at the end of a phone and manning our ambulance 24 hours a day.
We have had a number of suggestions to help with his capture and many worried for him with regards his health.
With those putting food out for him, as well as food for hedgehogs and feral cats in and the other sources it is extremely unlikely he will go hungry.
We are doing everything we possibly can, but we cannot move forward until we know his exact movements.
There is a reward for his return of £200.
Cameras are in possible sites where Bertie has been seen.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Bertie has been missing for over 3 months and yesterday morning we received a very encouraging report from a gentleman who was only a short distance from what was said to be a dog matching Berties description."
"It is the best possible sighting we have said since the search began and both the GSPCA wardens and the gentleman with his friends spent some time looking for Bertie yesterday in the early hours but he quickly ran off."
"The support in the search for Bertie has been wonderful and I know Clive and Lynn appreciate all the help."
"If you live in the L'Islet area, especially between Grand Fort Road and Route Carre please keep an eye out for Bertie as he was seen on Maladerie Road."
