Nearly a week on and the team at the GSPCA with the guidance and expertise of local Vet John Knight continue to care for and do all we can for the very sick loggerhead turtle.

Olivia who was found on Vazon beach on the west coast at 4pm on Wednesday of last week has been having tests and checks to ensure that her ill health isn't just because of cold shock and being in an unsuitable climate.

Last week she was xrayed at Les Eturs Veterinary Practice with no obvious breaks or ailments thankfully found. Her bloods that were taken at the time have also come back with no alarming concerns.

Today at 11am Olivia was transported by GSPCA staff to the new Vets 4 Pets Practice in St Martins.

Vet Les Van Blerk and his team at Vets 4 Pets with Vet John Knight assisted by GSPCA staff Geoff George and Steve Byrne carried out further a further investigation on Olivia the loggerhead turtle to ensure that her emaciated condition wasn't due to any blockages in her system.

The newly opened veterinary practice has state of the art equipment which includes a Veterinary Endoscope which the team at Vets 4 Pets kindly offered to assist in the health checks of the sick turtle.

Olivia is still very weak but her temperature is being increased slowly each day. At only 42kgs she is thought to be half of her true body weight and a real concern is that she had consumed some litter such as a carrier bag which could be trapped in her throat or stomach which could explain her thin condition.

After the help of the Vets 4 Pets team and their Veterinary Endoscope we can confirm that thankfully her throat and stomach are clear of any obstructions.

Whilst at the surgery in St Martins Vet John Knight administered additional treatments and fluids and Olivia has just been put on iv fluids this afternoon at the GSPCA by John Knight.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We are so lucky to have an experienced Vet like John Knight and it was so wonderful for Les and the team at the new Vets 4 Pets surgery to assist with Olivia the loggerhead turtle's checks today."

"John and the the team here at the GSPCA were all concerned that Olivia may have swallowed something that could have interfered or blocked her system but thankfully with help from the Vets 4 Pets Veterinary Endoscope we have confirmed her throat and stomach are clear."

"Olivia is still very weak and we continue to slowly warm her, treat, medicate and provide her with fluids."

"It was a week ago today that she was found and we are thankful it wasn't on a day like this which could have really affected her chances being much colder and rougher seas."

"When Geoff and I arrived and left Vets 4 Pets at St Martins some of the shoppers certainly looked a little shocked to see a 42kg turtle going in and out of the doors."

"At the GSPCA we take each day as it goes and continue to do all we can for her."

"Again a huge thank you to all that have donated so far to Olivia the turtle, Bonnie the seal and the many other animals at the GSPCA you can find out how to sponsor their care or donate to help them on our paypal link online, call 257261 or at the Shelter in St Andrews."

"Also thank you to John who is doing all he can for Olivia and to Les and the team at Vets 4 Pets for allowing us to use their lovely new facilities and equipment today."

Geoff George GSPCA Animal Collection Officer and Marine Medic said "Olivia is still very weak and we are doing all we can for her at the GSPCA."

"She has been moving about a little more recently and hopefully as we gradually increase her body temperature this will improve."

"It's a real relief to know there wasn't anything seriously broken after the xrays and today that her throat and stomach are clear of any obstructions."

"We are so grateful to all of the help from both Les Eturs and Vets 4 Pets with Olivia."
