Last week an extremely young grey seal pup with no mum in site was rescued in Alderney.
Poppy as she has been called is responding well to treatment and has made it through the first 12 days at the GSPCA.
The are now clear signs of her losing her white coat and we continue to do all we can to ensure she survives.
The GSPCA working with local vets have been giving Poppy around the clock intensive care in a heated isolated seal room at the Shelter and we are pleased to say she is now receiving fish as well as other treatments.
Geoff George GSPCA Animal Collection Officer and main carer for Poppy said "Poppy is still a long way off being 100% and we are doing all we can for her here at the GSPCA."
"She is being weaned onto mackerel and herring and we are appealing for donations towards her care."
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "It is great to have got Poppy through her first 12 days although she has an extremely long way to go before being ready for the wild."
"She has started losing her fluffy white coat which happens at the age she has reached."
"It will be months before she is ready for the wild and we are appealing for donations towards her care."
"To donate to her care you can do so online via the links below, calling 257261 or to the Shelter in St Andrews."
"A great gift this Christmas would be to sponsor an area each month at the GSPCA for a loved one and you can download a Christmas sponsorship form by visiting http://www.gspca.org.gg/sites/default/files/Angel%20sponsor%20form%20Christmas%20special_0.pdf."
"We will of course keep you up to date with how Poppy is doing."
