After nearly two weeks of intensive care we are extremely sad to say that Poppy the grey seal pup passed away in the early hours.
Found abandoned on a beach in Aldereny with no mum in site the team at the GSPCA have been caring for Poppy around the clock.
Poppy was the youngest seal pup to be cared for at the GSPCA and over the last two weeks staff have had her in isolation where only essential team members cared for her to ensure she was given the best chance.
Sadly despite treatments, vet and the intensive care Poppy was struggling to put on weight.
The team at the GSPCA did everything possible to help Poppy and the team are all devastated and saddened by her passing.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We are extremely saddened to report that in the early hours Poppy the grey seal pup has passed away."
"Poppy was the youngest seal pup we have rescued and despite nearly two weeks of intensive care and some signs of hope she had struggled to put on weight and condition."
"We have successfully rescued, rehabilitated and released back to the wild 5 grey seal pups in recent years and it is devastating to all of the team that we were unable to help this little abandoned pup."
"It is the time of year that grey seal pups are born around the Channel Islands and it is important with this bad weather if you see a pup not to approach it and either check out our website for advice or please do give us a call on 257261."
