Last Wednesday the GSPCA had a very special visit from Baroness Fookes DBE DL.
Baroness Janet Eveyln Fookes, DBE DL is a member of the House of Lords as well as an honorary Vice President of the RSPCA.
Baroness Fookes had a behind the scenes tour at the GSPCA meeting many of the team, animals and with an entourage from the media.
Baroness Fookes was accompanied by her good friend Madeline Dawson and they both thoroughly enjoyed their visit with their guide Steve Byrne the GSPCA Manager.
During the tour Baroness Fookes got to meet Beckie Bailiey who showed how we feed baby birds at the GPSCA while being filmed by the ADCH and Petplan Awards film crew which she is a finalist in next week from over 5000 nominations.
Baroness Fookes also got to see Marty the Jersey seal pup from behind one way glass who at the end of last week was released back to the wild.
Baroness Fookes said “With the wide variety of animals and reptiles and birds that I've seen, because it's a small island there's only this place so it isn't distributed out in the way it might be.”
“Where I live we have an RSPCA wildlife centre and somewhere else you've got something for the cats and dogs and maybe the few rabbits.”
“So here you've got everything!"
"I think it's very exciting to come round with someone so both enthusiastic and knowledgeable and has got that capacity for thinking ahead.”
“Of course I have loved seeing the animals!”
“A remarkable visit."
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It was a true pleasure to show around Baroness Fookes last week who was so interested in everything we do 24/7, trying to achieve and also to see long time supporter of the GSPCA Madeline Dawson.”
“We got to see everything from our oldest to our newest facilities as well as talk on our challenges and plans for the future like the new Wildlife Hospital we are trying to build.”
“We chatted as at the GSPCA we may be able to help Baroness Fookes with her local area for animals as she is still involved with her local RSPCA.”
“Baroness Fookes was so interested in everything we do at the GSPCA and we all really enjoyed show casing what we do.”
“She was so kind with her praise, words and thanks to our team and a huge thank you from all of us for her visiting it was a true pleasure.”
