With the extreme weather the GSPCA are seeing a very rough start for the wildlife of Guernsey.
Last night Rupert an oiled guillemot was rescued at Fort Grey and the team are braced for more as the gale force weather continues.
Often during the winter months with the high winds and stormy weather makes it difficult for wild animals and birds to feed and rest.
Also with the high winds we have to ensure our pets and animals kept outside are safe and secure.
The GSPCA are asking those that live around and visit our coast to please watch out for injured animals in need as well as seal pups which can get separated from their mothers at this time of year especially when we see bad weather.
Also for those with animals living outside the GSPCA is urging the owners to ensure they have the Shelter they require as we have seen an increase in complaints and calls from concerned members of public.
We have a number of web pages with wildlife advice or you can call 01481 257261 for help 24/7

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Late last night the first oiled casualty for 2018 was rescued and brought in just after 9pm.”
“Rupert as the finders called the oiled guillemot was found on the coast near Fort Grey pulled up on dry land covered in a thick crude oil like substance.”
“I treated and washed Rupert and he is currently in an intensive care unit and will receive further treatment today.”
“We are pleased to report he has made it through the night although extremely early days.”
“With the high winds and stormy weather we are all braced at the GSPCA to see an increase in casualties in the next few days.”
“If anyone is concerned for an animals safety you can contact us on 257261.”
