On Monday we held our 11th volunteer induction and greeted 15 new helpful faces eager to help the animals and work of the GSPCA.
This year alone we have inducted 147 new volunteers, placements and work through these inductions and are graced with an average 120 volunteers each week but with over 500 animals in our care there is always plenty to do.
All are always looking for help at the GSPCA as there is so much to do from fund raising to caring for the animals, the animal ambulance to gardening, painting to answering the phone, our charity shop to helping at events.
Of the 15 new volunteers 4 are carrying out Duke of Edinburgh placements and we often see 30 to 50 Duke of Edinburgh each week helping at the GSPCA.
The many others are helping in all sorts of areas and yesterday two started their volunteering on the cattery and kennels.
We welcome all that are interested in helping at the GSPCA and with our work, although for those wanting to help onsite at the Shelter the minimum age is 13.
For volunteers under 13 we have a huge amount of events taking place which they can help at with a parent or guardian.
In fact a week Sunday we are at Discover Dogs with a stall and any volunteers wanting to help with this please do get in touch [email protected] .
We have now set our inductions for 2019 and with only two left for 2018 the next being Monday 5th November at 630pm.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It was wonderful to meet and greet the 15 new volunteers on Monday.”
“It’s incredible to think that this year through the inductions we have inducted 147 volunteers this year at the GSPCA.”
“It was lovely to see two of the new volunteers start yesterday and both really enjoyed themselves.”
“The next induction is on the 5th November and then the 4th December and we have just released the volunteer induction dates for 2019.”
“At the end of each induction we always hand out an induction certificate and get a group photo.”
“We also joke that when a new volunteer starts they have to bring cake on the first day and its amazing how actually do and it’s a great way to celebrate their first day helping at the Shelter.”
