On Sunday the GSPCA held the fourth ever Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday in St Peter Port.
Each year since 2012 the team at the Animal Shelter work extremely hard to put on a day to celebrate animals in Guernsey.
Once again thousands of visitors and locals enjoyed what was a wonderful day packed with things to see and do.
Stall holders and the GSPCA team arrived during the early hours of Sunday to set up ready for the first event which was the fantastic Battle of Britain Parade which takes place along the seafront just after 940am.
There was a great turn out to watch the parade and get the day started. The fun dog show started just after 12pm and the whole of the front was filled with hundreds of dogs of all shapes and sizes many of which took part in the fun show which Olaf judged. Olaf decided the best in show and the dog he would like to take home was Eden a Red Setter although he thought all of the dogs were winners.
As this was on going the Greenman MCC and LH Events put on a music stage which was filled with amazing local acts who entertained the crowds and gave the day a wonderful atmosphere.
At 1.30pm we held the children's fancy dress followed by the Animal Mascot Race which this year saw teams and individuals from Crabby Jacks, The Travel Corporation, Sark Shipping, Greenman MCC and KPMG with the celebrity race including Daniel the Island FM Donkey, Roary the GFC Lion and our very own Bernard the GSPCA Mascot Dog.
The corporate final race was between last years winners KPMG and The Travel Corporation who won the 2015 fun mascot race and Roary the Lion showing us all that this year hopefully GFC can have a winners season.
The weather turned out to be lovely for much of the day and the many stall holders fed back how much they enjoyed the event.
As part of the day we displayed board showing the 25 Slovakian puppies which was of huge interest to the throngs filling the streets and we would like to thank all that donated towards their care and the many animals at the GSPCA.
The GSPCA stalls which included all sorts of games and goods didn't stop all day and proved so busy the team were all shattered by the end of the day.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "The Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday is our biggest event of the year and it is truly wonderful to see how many caring animal supporters we have here in Guernsey as they whole street was packed all day."
"I don't think we have ever seen so many dogs in one place in Guernsey and the atmosphere typified the day."
"I must thank each and every person that helped put on a magical day, to all that donated and supported, the authorities that were behind the scenes to those manning the stalls, the van drivers to Lorna for helping organise the day, Greenman MCC and LH Events to all the musicians, Suzy and Peter who dressed as Olaf and Dave the Minion to Guy who was our very own Bernard, all the corporate to celebrity mascot racers, my fiance Jo to the charities that joined us, Tom the security lad to all of our superb volunteers and staff."
"We have yet to count all of the buckets of donations, but for every penny donated it helps us make a real difference at the GSPCA."
"Thank you to everyone help with a fantastic Animal Welfare seafront Sunday celebrating animals in Guernsey and raising funds to help with their care."
