Like many emergency services the snow and ice has meant work as usual at the GSPCA.
With over 500 animals in our care, the team all made it in again today to look after the animals, answer the phone, open the shop and rescue those in need 24/7 like the stray canary that has just arrived and soon to be returned to his owner.
We helped rescue a baby bunny late last night, a lapwing earlier today and volunteers are currently out rescuing a hedgehog to mention a few. The team at present at the Shelter are preparing the evening feeds and medications for the many animals in our care.
Over lunch a new very large cat decided to have a team picture with those at the Shelter.
Although the Giant Snow Cat (although some say its a rabbit) may disappear by tomorrow the team have all been fantastic ensuring the work of the GSPCA doesn't stop.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "The team here at the GSPCA are incredible, everyone was in again before 8am this morning and despite the snow, ice and wind we have helped many animals in need and cared for the 500+ at the Shelter."
"We have had a number of pipes burst and it hasn't been easy for the team to commute to work and carry out their duties due to the weather."
"Wildlife are likely to be very weak due to this weather and high protein food and fresh water put out will really make a difference."
"After extreme weather we always see a surge of wild animals in need and our 24/7 emergency number is 257261."
"During breaks we had a little bit of fun making some snow animals and men and a special thank you to Joseph, Rual,, Lieneke and Beckie for helping me apply some first aid to make our giant GSPCA Snow Cat."
"A huge thanks to all of the GSPCA team during these difficult days."
"We are closing the shop and reception just after 4pm today but normal hours as usual will apply tomorrow as far as we have planned."
