Yesterday on Thursday 4th October the GSPCA opened it's doors for World Animal Day between 11am and 4pm to celebrate animals and hold a free microchipping event as part of the celebrations.
Dozens of visitors turned up for the guided tours, enjoy the refreshments, browse the goods on sale and see the many animals at the Shelter.
A total of 17 dogs and cats were microchipped which by GSPCA Shelter staff who got to meet some wonderful dogs, cats and some very cute puppies. This means these owners can be confident that if their loved pets go missing they have a much better chance of being reunited quickly. The Shelter microchips dogs and cats for only £4.99 Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5pm with no appointment necessaary.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'What a wonderful day and great weather we had to celebrate World Animal Day.' 'We must say a huge thank you to one of our volunteers Bryony that made some amazing cakes as well as staff Chris and Jane from Waitrose Rohais stare who both helped for the day and supplied lots of goodies as refreshments for the many visitors.'

Nearly £200 was raised on the day through donations and goods sold and we would like to thank everyone for their support.
We are very grateful to Waitrose for both their help and also the donation from their Community Matters Award Scheme which we were nominated for earlier this year which we received nearly a third of the £1000 share. If you shop in Waitrose please nominate us for this wonderful fund raiser as we are now eligible once more. Thank you to those that donated their green tokens earlier this year.
