At the GSPCA we are currently in search of ideally 2 portakabins.
The need has arose for two reasons, the first due to the damage caused by the 100mph winds from Storm Ciaran which you can find out more by going to https://www.gspca.org.gg/blog/gspca-launches-urgent-fundraising-appeal-wake-storm-ciaran and to donate to the appeal please go to https://giving.gg/donate/charity/2/Guernsey-Society-for-the-Prevention-of-Cruelty-to-Animals-(GSPCA)
The second reason is we are hoping to start our BIG BUILD in the very near future https://www.gspca.org.gg/blog/biggest-appeal-ever-gspca-big-build-appeal-buy-brick-build-brighter-future-animals-guernsey
When this work starts we will lose the use of 8 buildings which house a wide variety of animals from 100’s of hedgehogs to seals, kennels to areas being used for ferrets and many others.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have had a hard couple of weeks at the GSPCA with the awful weather and 100mph winds.”
“Not only have we had to rescue and assist 100’s of animals from Barnacle Bill the loggerhead turtle to hedgehogs, injured birds to stray dogs, we have also had a huge amount of damage to many of our enclosures.”
“We have launched an Urgent Appeal for funds due to the damage as we need to clear fallen trees and build new enclosures which can be seen b going to https://www.gspca.org.gg/blog/gspca-launches-urgent-fundraising-appeal-wake-storm-ciaran .”
“As well as funds we really need a couple of portakabins to house some of the displaced animals until we can build new enclosures and also ahead of our BIG BUILD.”
“We hope to soon start the BIG BUILD which includes new welfare and rehoming kennels, ferret facilities and most importantly a new Wildlife Hospital.”
“When this takes place the area where the hedgehogs are housed will be lost and we need temporary facilities to help house the 100+ we often have in our care.”
“If anyone can help with portakabins please do get in touch by calling 01481 257261 or email [email protected] .”
“As mentioned we have launched a Storm Damage Appeal as the costs from the storm is looking to cost upwards of £20,000 and all donations are really appreciated and we are hugely grateful to all that have already been so kind.”
