The Association of Guernsey Charities announced yesterday that tickets for the 2012 Christmas Lottery are now on sale at shops, stores, supermarkets, garages, and many other outlets around the island - and only cost £1 each. The traditional lottery always proves to be a popular choice as it offers the chance of winning a large sum of money - and all the proceeds are given to Channel Island charities.
This year, the first prize will be a minimum of £300,000 - as usual, this will increase as more tickets are sold. There is a second prize of £50,000 and third prize is £25,000. There are also 45 prizes of £500.
Each Lottery ticket also includes a scratchcard (which this year has been simplified) where you can win an instant cash prize of up to £5,000.
Proceeds form all tickets sold in Guernsey are given to the Association of Guernsey Charities to distribute to local good causes. Last year, the 2011 Christmas Lottery raised a record breaking £213,898 which benefited 42 charities operating local projects or services.
The 2011 Christmas Lottery jackpot reached £751,500, and organisers have said that even more tickets have been printed this year so the jackpot first prize could climb even higher if tickets sell out.
On behalf of local charities, the Association is thanking everyone, including all the businesses, that support the traditional Christmas Lottery by buying tickets. They assure us that every penny raised will go towards helping many of the islands charities to carry out their work in 2013.
