You may remember a stray Bearded Dragon found on Jerbourg point this winter here in Guernsey.

Sadly we were unable to find an owner so she went up for adoption after the 21 days needed as a stray under Guernsey law.

We often struggle to find the right kind of homes for the reptiles in our care but this week a wonderful home was found for Bernadette who we first called Oliver as we originally thought she was a boy.

Bernadette ahead of the Welsh dragons facing the England side in the Six Nations at Twickenham has not only found a fantastic home, she has also found love.

Sarah Creasey GSPCA Animal Welfare and Education Officer said "Bernadette was found out at Jerbourg point and would have died if she hadn't been found with the cold weather."

"This week a lovely home was offered at a local nursing home who already have a male bearded dragon and I went to visit earlier this week."

"They had a wonderful set up so they have taken the bearded dragon to meet her new mate and it looks like they are getting on very well."

"The residents love Rocky and I am sure they will love Bernadette too who has been a star during our recent Shelter tours in half term around the GSPCA."

Peter Adam who has adopted the bearded dragon from the nursing home said "Bernadette and Rocky seem to love each other."

"Initial head nodding and posturing establishing dominance, but settled now and cuddled together under the heat lamps."

"Bernadettes been chasing crickets and locusts and scattered her carrots and taken a bath!"

"Photos of initial 'getting to know you'."

"Thanks again for finding a mate for Rocky."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Every year we find and rescue a selection of rescued reptiles with around 30 tortoise, a number of turtles or terrapins, a few snakes and the occasional lizard."

"It is wonderful to see that Bernadette is doing so well, we are all so happy for her and it is a fantastic set up they have for them both."

"Reptiles aren't the easiest pet to look after and we always try and find those at the GSPCA ideally an experienced or or an owner who has researched their needs at length."

"A huge thank to Peter and the residents for giving Bernadette the chance of a new home and what looks like true love."

"Being a Welsh man myself knowing a dragon has been made very happy this week I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the rugby match tomorrow and for Wales."
