On Tuesday the GSPCA and Autism Guernsey hosted the Puffin Parade auction which was an amazing evening and the amount raised from the auction has now gone up an extra £200 to £98,400.
There are many stories to tell about the new homes of the many Puffins and one that warms the heart is Dudley.
Dudley was sponsored by Dowding Signs and during the Parade was placed outside the Farmhouse Hotel was originally painted by St Martins Primary School.
Dudley sold for an amazing £2,000 at the auction and yesterday the Puffin Parade team were asked to deliver it as a surprise to St Martins Primary School.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “The Puffin Parade auction was such an amazing success and what great fun we all had.”
“My 6 year old goes to St Martins Primary School and yesterday while helping the buyers load their Puffins at St Pierre Park I got a message that ‘Dudley’ who was decorated by St Martins Primary School was to be gifted to the school by an anonymous buyer.”
“I helped load the Puffin and we didn’t tell the School.”
“When I took my son this morning I spoke to Head Teacher Mrs Giles who told me the driver was met with so much cheering from all the children he couldn’t be more impressed with the warm welcome.”
Mrs Giles Head Teacher of St Martins Primary School said “We are thrilled to announce that Dudley the puffin has returned home to St Martin’s Primary School.”
“There were cheers of joy from the children and staff as he was delivered across the playground. What a lovely surprise!”
“Thank you, thank you, thank you to the anonymous donor who bid a whopping £2,000 to purchase Dudley. We are so grateful.”
“Very happy children and staff along with a very generous donation for the GSPCA and Autism Guernsey.”
Steve continued “You can still donate to the Puffin Parade and we are planning a calendar of the Puffins so more to come.”
“We also had an increase bid on one of the Puffins so the auction alone raised £98,400.”
“Again a huge thanks to everyone involved and supported such an amazing event in what is our 150th year at the GSPCA.”
