If you can say that your job, or even your life, is like trying to herd cats, then this day is for you!
Cat Herders Day was created by Thomas and Ruth Roy of Wellcat Holidays to honor all of the people in the world whose lives can be compared to the impossible task of herding cats. This time of year it is easy to feel as if we’re chasing after a bunch of independent-minded felines.
Though not literal cat herders, many of us have been figurative cat herders at some point. Teachers or volunteers with a large group of school children on a field trip definitely qualify. Coaching a football or hockey team of 8 years and under is another example. To all the cat herders out there, literally or figuratively speaking, today is for you.
At the GSPCA we too feel like cat herders but quite literally as we have dozens of unwanted and stray cats looking for homes. Occasionally we manage to find the owners of the stray cats, especially when they are microchipped.
For example we had a cat in last night that we were able to reunite with the owner as he was chipped. If your cat isn’t done we can do it for only £10 here at the Shelter.
If you are looking for a cat you can still visit and reserve but our official cut off date for letting animals out over the Christmas period is the 18th December until the new year. This is to prevent people giving pets as presents as they should be thought of as a new member of the family and not a surprise gift. We will make exceptions for homes where the animals will not have too much disruption over the festive period.
The GSPCA hope that all have a nice Cat Herders Day and would like to remind everyone that this Saturday we have our Christmas Fayre between 11am and 3.30pm. If you would like to help, donate bric-a-brac, cakes, raffle prizes or more please get in touch.
