Watch this space for some very exciting news……..
After a very kind donation of £2000 the GSPCA Animal Shelter will soon havi it’s very own rabbit village.
Volunteers from KPMG have given two days of work time to come along to the GSPCA Shelter in St Andrews to help give some extra protection to 15 large rabbit hutches before they are built.
The £2000 has meant the Shelter could purchase a number of very large outdoor enclosures to give the many rabbits as well as a few other residents a much better quality of life whilst they are waiting for new homes.
Phillipa Hayes, Dan Wynne and Lara Forsyth from KPMG are currently giving the flat pack pens an extra coat before they are screwed together to give the bunny's and friends a 5 star stay at the Shelter.
Rabbits are often one of the forgotten pets left in tiny cages at the end of the garden whilst in the wild they would often roam a 2 acre area foraging for fresh greens.
These new pens for the first time at the Shelter will give them the opportunity to have a lovely temporary accommodation before the find their way to a new home. They can also double up as pens for other animals and birds that need housing at the Shelter.
We will update when the new Rabbit Village is open and complete but we would like to thank volunteers from KPMG for their time and for the kind donation that has enabled us to purchase these pens.
The Wentworth Rabbit Pen/Chicken Coops will be on sale at the Shelter very soon for only £185 each to help give your rabbit a better life.
Emma Trousdale GSPCA Welfare and Education Officer said ‘We are often called out to check the welfare of rabbits and guinea pigs.’ ‘These pens will are fantastic and it will be lovely to see them with such fantastic homes.’ ‘We have many rabbits and guinea pigs looking for homes and if anyone is looking please think of rescuing a rescue.’
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said ‘We are so grateful to KPMG and the lady that gave the amazing donation.’ ‘It costs over £500,000 a year to run the Shelter and for all the work we do.’ ‘It is wonderful to improve the accommodation for the rabbits, now we need to concentrate on building a new cattery to help with the hundreds of cats we have every year.’ ‘We have plans to build a 2 story cattery but it will cost £1.4 million and we are looking at launching an appeal very soon.’

Join Roary the GFC Lion, Daniel the Donkey from Island FM and Bernard the GSPCA Mascot Dog and friends for the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday Mascot Race on the 9th September.
We are asking businesses, pubs, groups or anyone that would like to get involved with the race to help the animals of Guernsey for a minimum donation of £100. We will supply a costume for a staff member or budding volunteer to take part and they will get a chance to enter a wheelie bin race and normal race along the Seafront from 1pm on the day. Also for those wanting to stay on for some fun we will have tug of war and lots more with those brave mascots.
Corporate sponsors and businesses get to choose their suit or if they wish to provide their own it must be an animal and we still require the application form completed with the minimum sponsorship.
There are lots of events happening during the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday from a fun dog show, arts and crafts stalls, live music, bouncy castles, kids games, food stalls, picture competitions, doggy dancing and much more.
We are still looking for those interested in having a stall to get in touch with [email protected] call 01481 257261 or visit http://www.gspca.org.gg/page/animal-welfare-sea-front-sunday for more details
