Last night we held the second volunteer induction of 2017 at the GSPCA and saw a packed room of 26 new helpers keen to learn how they can get involved with us here at the Animal Shelter adding to the 21 inducted last month taking this years inducted volunteers to a total of 47.
The induction took place just after 6.30pm with GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne talking to the group about who we are, what we do, the ways volunteers can help and an induction of how to help safely to all 26 new volunteers who were aged from 13 years upwards.
At the end of the induction many set dates and times to start and today the first new volunteer from last night has been helping with the dogs and some of our reptiles.
Of those attending Sophie, Phoebe, Millie, Hannah, Imogen, Brenda, Emily, Samuel, Callum, Louis, Gina, Selena, John, Michael, Michelle, Ellie, Aimee, Lauren, Faye, Georgina, Abigail, Charlie, Sophie, Elsa, Michael and Cheryl were looking to help from cleaning kennels to socialising cats, 11 Duke of Edinburgh placements to work placements looking to have their placement at the GSPCA, fund raising volunteers to those helping where ever they can.
At the end of the evening all were given a certificate of attendance and a pack of information including a hand book.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We are extremely lucky at the GSPCA to have so many amazing volunteers that help us around the clock 7 days a week."
"It was fantastic to see so many new faces keen to help and most are starting over the next few days."
"A huge thank you to Sophie, Phoebe, Millie, Hannah, Imogen, Brenda, Emily, Samuel, Callum, Louis, Gina, Selena, John, Michael, Michelle, Ellie, Aimee, Lauren, Faye, Georgina, Abigail, Charlie, Sophie, Elsa, Michael and Cheryl for coming last night as well as many parents who enjoyed learning about our work."
"We hold regular volunteer inductions for those interested in getting involved with the next set for Monday 6th March at 6.30pm."
"For anyone interested in volunteering or helping please visit http://gspca.org.gg/about/volunteers or call 257261 for more information."
"Every week we see over 100 volunteers and helping us cover the 24/7 work we carry out 365 days a year but with over 350 animals in our care there is plenty to do and we are always keen to get those interested involved with the work we do helping thousands of animals every year in Guernsey."
"We regularly help in excess of 50 Duke of Edinburgh placements each week as well as many on back to work schemes, students and other placements from a variety of organisations and always happy to help where we can and really appreciate the support for the work we carry out 24/7."
