Stand Up for Guernsey's Environment - The GSPCA strongly supports the proposed amendments to Guernsey’s Policy and Resource Plan to help our environment.
The GSPCA helps 1000s of wild animals every year in our island and the environment provides enormous benefits to society over and above its intrinsic worth. At the GSPCA conservation and the natural world is at the heart of much of our work we carry out 24/7.
We very much support the views of the Guernsey RSPB, Guernsey Trees for Life and La Société Guernesiaise that in Guernsey we have to ensure our natural world has the protection it requires and that our countryside is not exploited so that we ensure it is protected for our wildlife and for future generations.
In the last 18 months the GSPCA has taken strides in helping the biodiversity of plant and wildlife at the Shelter grounds in St Andrews and continually promote and campaign to the community to help support our environment in the Bailiwick of Guernsey along with many local good causes, individuals, States Departments and groups.
The GSPCA would urge the States of Guernsey to ensure that the new Policy and Resource Plan debated on the 15th November is accepted only on the premise that the environment and countryside is valued, protected where possible and not exploited to the detriment of our wildlife.
At the GSPCA we would like to ask all islanders and Deputies to stand up for our natural environment.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "From the GSPCA we work extremely hard around the clock to help wildlife in Guernsey and we need to ensure that our environment is protected for the rich and diverse plant and animal life we have here in Guernsey."
"At the GSPCA we strongly support the proposed amendments to Guernsey’s Policy and Resource Plan to help our environment and also support the views of the Guernsey RSPB, Guernsey Trees for Life and La Société Guernesiaise."
"The GSPCA would like to ask all islanders and Deputies to please stand up for our natural environment."
Here is a short message from the Guernsey RSPB, Guernsey Trees for Life and La Société Guernesiaise -
'On the 15th November Phase 1 of the States of Guernsey’s Policy and Resource plan, “Future Guernsey”, will be debated. This new plan will replace the current States Strategic Plan, including the States Environmental Plan. Future Guernsey sets out the vision of where Guernsey will be in 20 years time however it does not sufficiently include the natural environment.
Most worryingly, this new document will be used to advise Phase 2 of the plan - budget cutting. If a work stream is not prioritised in Phase 1, it will not be funded in Phase 2. So, if the Plan is passed without amendment, it is likely the Biodiversity Strategy, passed last year, will be lost before it's even begun, and, we believe, no other environmental work streams will be a priority for the States.

Several amendments have been put forward by Deputy Barry Brehaut and his team which, if voted in, will better enable the inclusion of environmental considerations. Unfortunately, the States this year is divided on environmental issues and there is a real risk the amendments will not be accepted.
We are emailing you today to ask you to show your support for the amendments and contact your Deputies to encourage them to to vote in favour of them on 15th November 2016. If you are not a local resident of Guernsey, your support is still important!
This link will take you to the amendments that have been submitted; the amendments we are in support of in relation to the natural environment are numbered 7 to 12: https://www.gov.gg/article/156402/The-Policy--Resource-Plan---Phase-One

Please contact the Deputies of Guernsey and encourage them to Stand Up For Guernsey’s Environment on November 15th! If you'd like any more information, or to talk through the information above please don't hesitate to contact us.'
