On Friday as the hours of darkness descended the GSPCA were called out to rescue a stray we don't see every day.
Animal Collection Officer Geoff George responded to the call from The Yacht Inn in St Peter Port. As he started looking for the stray animal he found himself outside listening to locate the animal in need.
Geoff closed in to the tweeting and managed to catch what was a young female zebra finch.
Alex as she has been named is now safe and warm at the Shelter but if she hadn't been rescued she would certainly have died with the cold weather.
Geoff George ACO said 'It's not every day I can say I rescued a zebra, well a zebra finch.'
'She's now called Alex but as she doesn't have a ring we have no way of tracing an owner.'
'If anyone is missing a small Australian white female zebra finch then we are asking them to please get in touch.'
'Alex isn't the only domestic bird at the GSPCA as we have chickens, cockatiels, a budgie and a conure all looking for new homes.'
If you think Alex may be yours please call the GSPCA Animal Shelter on 01481 257261.
