On Saturday we held our Fun Dog Show and Summer Fayre.
We say summer but unfortunately the heavens opened and it rained for most of the day. Despite the wet weather the show went ahead.
As we had to fit owners and dogs into the training room at the Shelter the decision had to be made to go from 13 classes to 1 big class which was judged by Channelonline presenter Rob Moore.
Over 50 dogs attended and Rob met each dog and chatted to all the owners. From chihuahuas to boxers, staffies to cross breeds, there were dogs of all shapes and sizes.
On this sunny day the GSPCA Animal Shelter was visited by a junior class from Blanchelande College with over 20 of their students.
The group with 4 teachers were shown around the Shelter by Welfare and Education Officer Emma Trousdale. The children got to view the cats and hedgehogs, ferrets and baby birds, dogs being exercised and rabbits being brushed.
JOULES of Guernsey’s recent window display has caused quite a stir amongst island dog lovers who have taken a liking to the 10 cardboard canines currently residing at the front of the Pollet shop.
‘Since we made the display we have had quite a few people asking if they could buy the dogs when it is taken down. The team and I thought this would be a great way to raise some funds for the GSPCA so from Monday we will be accepting sealed bids for each of the cardboard cutouts,’ explained Joules’ manager Carol Hutchins.
GSPCA attending this Easter Egg Hunt
Easter Egg hunt for young children and families.
Date: Sunday, 25th March from 1:30 until 4:30
Location: Blanchelande School Field
There will be hidden markers for the children to find, and they will then receive chocolate eggs and treats based on how many they collect. The children will be organised into age groups, so that the markers can be hidden accordingly.
The last 3 weeks staff and volunteers have braved the weather to sell GSPCA and pet goods in town and Oatlands during the late night shopping evenings.
Even in pouring rain they stood there from 6-9pm raising funds for the Animal Shelter. A big thank you must go to them and Bernard who helped raise nearly £1500 all of which will go towards helping animals in Guernsey.
Bernard our mascot gave out hugs and lollys whilst those helping sold everything from GSPCA mugs to cat toys, rabbit stockings to GSPCA teddies, reindeer antlers and flashing noses to chocolate bars.
