Each year the fantastic Greenman Mcc & Millards Charity Bikenights raise thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes and this Wednesday please pop along for a great time and raise much needed funds for the nominated charity which this week is ourselves at the GSPCA.
Last night the GSPCA were contacted by the Control Room as a concerned member of public had been in touch having spotted a gull in need of help.
The bird is said to reportedly have swallowed a fishing line and hook with what we have been told a rod still attached.
We are unsure at this time of species of gull and it was seen flying out to sea last night at Saints Bay.
Jen Bradshaw GSPCA Ambulance Night Warden said “Last night a gull was reported to us at Saints Bay was said to have a hook and line, and apparently a rod attached to it.
On Sunday 8th August please pop along to Saumarez Park to see the GSPCA stall supporting the Annual Classic Vehicle Show Public hosted by Guernsey Classic Vehicle Club LBG.
We had a great time in previous years and we are delighted once again to be able to attend this wonderful event and will have a stall raising funds for the many animals in our care at the GSPCA.
The day starts at 11am and runs all the way through until 5pm.
On Friday 6th August pop to Café St James from 7pm and support local artist Dan Ashplant with his album launch 'No Nonsense'.

One of the main aims of the GSPCA is education and today GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne attended the Youth Commission to talk to a group of 30 children aged 4 – 11 years.
For nearly 90 minutes they learnt all about the work of the GSPCA, animal care and the thousands of animals we help every year.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Although we are unable to carry out our normal guided educational tours due to our onsite covid rules we absouletly love coming out to talk to groups about our work and educate about animal care.”
Last weekend the 18th Torteval Scarecrow Festival took place through the delightful lanes of the parish all starting from Torteval Church.
This was the sixth year the GSPCA took part in this wonderful community event and we are hugely grateful to the McIntyre family for the kind use of their front garden which displayed our fantastic entry ‘#GSPCATogether’.
This year the GSPCA not only had a fab entry made by Head of Scarecrows Seb Goman and the team, but we also were kindly invited to collect at the car park on the Saturday for much needed donations for the GSPCA.
This Sunday the GSPCA will once again be on the Seafront for the third EDABL Seafront Sunday and fifth of the year taking place in St Peter Port.
This Sunday from 10am till 4pm the GSPCA are delighted to say we will be joining the EDABL Seafront Sunday to raise much needed funds and promote the work of the Animal Shelter.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We always have great fun at the Seafront Sundays and not only are we looking forward to this weekend, we are appealing for volunteers to help at the second EDABL Seafront Sunday on the 25th July."
The 18th Torteval Scarecrow Festival will be held this weekend on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August 2021.
At the Torteval Parish Church you can walk the Scarecrow Trail (1½ hours approx) through some of Torteval’s delightful lanes.
Refreshments available throughout both days with licensed bar, entertainment and fete with various stalls.
This is the sixth year the GSPCA are taking part in this wonderful community event and we are hugely grateful to the McIntyre family for the kind use of their front garden.
With the exceptionally warm weather it has been exceptionally busy at the GSPCA.
One of the biggest casualties being effected have been hedgehogs and the GSPCA is appealing for islanders to do all they can to help our prickly friends.
From dehydrated baby hedgehogs to those covered in fly eggs and maggots we have helped 42 hedgehogs since the start of this month.
It is important that wildlife has access to fresh water in hot weather, especially our hedgehogs and the GSPCA is urging islanders to pop a shallow bowl out to help those thirsty spiky friends.
Yesterday morning the team at the GSPCA were called to rescue what was thought to be a dolphin or porpoise.
GSPCA Animal Ambulance at the time was Sarah Langlois who contacted Geoff George who heads up Marine Mammal care and they headed to Perelle where the poorly mammal had been spotted.
GSPCA President and Les Eturs Vet John Knight was also called to attend the scene where the team spent some time trying to refloat the poorly animal.
