Last Friday a team of two plumbers from Dave Brook Plumbing Heating & Leadwork gave up half a day to help around the site of the GSPCA.
With 16 buildings and over 300 animals the GSPCA is an extremely busy place using water and drains throughout the site from the seal pools to sinks to wash our hands and bowls.
Have so much pipe work often means we need repairs and improvements and last Friday Dave Brook Plumbing Heating & Leadwork were a huge help in getting so much done.
Today is World Snake Day a day to celebrate our legless reptile friends.
Every year the GSPCA helps snakes of various sizes and breeds and we currently have Kellogg the corn snake who has been with us for 18 days.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Today is World Snake Day and did you know there are no snakes indigenous to Guernsey the closest thing we have is the legless lizard which is the slow worm.”
“We do however have many owners of pet snakes and 18 days later we continue to appeal for information on anyone that have lost a corn snake near Vale Road.”
With hot weather the GSPCA always receives calls and reports from the public that have seen dogs locked in cars, dogs being walked on hot pavements, animals in direct sunlight and we want to remind all pet owners of the real dangers to their pets.
With the warm weather and direct sunlight, dogs and other animals whether in cars or their pens are potentially in a situation where you could kill your pet if it is left, regardless of the situation.
The GSPCA are hugely grateful to the amazing team at Insurance Corporation.

Yesterday the GSPCA had the privilege of showing some of the Doctor and Nursing staff from the Guernsey A&E Department around the facilities of the Animal Shelter.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager greeted the 10 visitors just after lunch on what was a lovely sunny afternoon.
We have all been in awe of our Health Service, especially in the last year and a half and what was even more caring of them was last Friday they held a cake sale and raised an awesome £267.92 to help the many animals and work of the GSPCA.
At the GSPCA we have a huge of animals and some with very unique skills.
This week one of our degus David the Second had a very important task.
David was asked to use his psychic powers to predict the results of this weekends Euro finals between England and Italy.
David was placed in his physic exercise blue ball in a room with two flags, one for Italy and one for England and was asked to place himself on the team who he thought would win.
On Saturday 26th June more than 40 local charities with a variety of stands attended the front lawn of Government House for the Charities Fete.
By kind permission of His Excellency The Lieutenant-Governor who is also the Patron of the GSPCA the team from the Shelter not only had their tombola stall, they also helped provide the catering thanks to Michelle Champion from Fillers and GSPCA team member.

The GSPCA are hugely grateful to the amazing team at Investec Bank Offshore.
Their staff have given hundreds of hours to help out at the GSPCA since 2019.
In that time they have helped in so many incredible ways from helping care for animals to helping with grounds work, painting to helping sort donations.
They also helped last year sponsor an AED machine and most recently helped with a donation that enabled us to purchase a new Electric Animal Ambulance which some of their team got to see last month when they volunteered.
With only 2 months to go, the GSPCA are busy preparing for the tenth Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday.
Despite the restrictions last year we saw over 100 stalls at our biggest event of the year and 2021 is looking to once again be a bumper year.
We would be delighted if any stalls or buskers would like to join us to help celebrate animals in Guernsey.
