The FREE event that took place on Saturday was an incredible day packed with 100’s of visitors through the day enjoying the sunshine and everything for the family to do from the live music to the bouncy castles.
The GSPCA were once again present raising much needed funds and we cannot thank all involved enough.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “A huge thanks to Corinne and Cathy for running our stall at the Le Friquet Family Fun Day on Saturday.”
“It was an amazing day with fantastic weather and Cathy and Corinne didn’t stop.”
The GSPCA would like to say a huge thanks to all that supported our stall and to the fantastic volunteers who manned what was a very busy day.
The day had a theme of Guernsey Together – A celebration of community and kindness within the Arts and what an incredible day it was
With the most difficult year in living memory at the GSPCA the Arts Sunday gave a great opportunity to raise much needed funds and promote our work.
Beckie Bailey GSPCA team member said “We had great fun on Sunday and raised over £1000.”
Last year the GSPCA saw a record breaking 618 hedgehogs come through the doors and 2020 is set to be even busier.
Between the 1st January 2019 and 12th August 2019 we saw 330 hedgehogs which was a record in our 147 year history and this year between the same period we have already had 399 hedgehogs arrive meaning it looks like another record breaking year for hedgehog numbers.
Despite lockdown the GSPCA has been incredibly busy and especially with wild animals.
With the recent hot weather the GSPCA has had a number of reports from concerned members of the public that have seen dogs locked in cars, dogs being walked on hot pavements, animals in direct sunlight and we want to remind all pet owners of the real dangers to their pets.
The GSPCA team have already been out to many vehicles and calls this year to reports of dogs locked in cars in direct sunlight and also to other animals at risk with the warm weather.

The Guernsey Arts Commission are proud to announce that Arts Sunday this year will be going ahead on the revised date of 9th August, that’s this Sunday between 10am and 4pm.
The last few months have been a strange time for the whole Island, but what has emerged from this has been the importance of creativity to bring the community together and spread positivity.
Due to this, they have decided to continue on from the last few months and are happy to announce the theme will be Guernsey Together – A celebration of community and kindness within the Arts.

Yes once again the GSPCA will be there with lots of tombolas and games to raise funds for the many animals in our care, taking place 11am until 4pm.
At the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews are currently looking to recruit casual animal care and reception assistants who especially have availability at weekends, with excellent customer and animal care skills.
Working for the GSPCA is a diverse and often challenging position with great rewards from the 3000 animals we help through the doors 24/7 each year to the community we serve here in Guernsey.

Last month at the GSPCA we shared an important message about helping hedgehogs and after todays record number arrived in one morning we wanted to share that important information.
Of the 13 hedgehogs two were able to go back to the wild, one was sadly deceased on arrival and 10 others are now in our Hedgehog Department with a variety of injuries, ailments and ages requiring our care.
With a total of 348 hedgehogs coming into our care during 2020 since the 1st January it looks likely we will see another record breaking number of hedgehogs to need our help.
