Today at the GSPCA for the first time Pebble the Guernsey seal pup rescued earlier this year and Andrew from Jersey who came in November 2018 got to meet.
The States of Guernsey last week issued advice that two households could come together and here at the GSPCA Andrew and Pebble are now able to share their pools, expanding their social bubbles.
Recently the GSPCA had two amazing donations dropped off at a social distance.
Agnieszka Wood who is a wonderful supporter of the GSPCA made over 30 homemade face masks.
These included not only rainbow coloured masks but also some with dogs on all of which the team are hugely grateful for.
Ana Amaral GSPCA Animal Care Assistant said “Really love the new facemasks they are great.”
Beckie Bailey Animal Care Assistant said “Thank you so much for my rainbow coloured mask its fantastic.”
There are those that worry what would happen to our pets if something happened and we were rushed into hospital leaving our pets in our home.
At the GSPCA we have been highlighting this especially since the Covid-19 pandemic began as it is extremely important that our pets are safe and have the care they require even when something happens to the owner.
The ‘In An Emergency There Are Pets Inside’ poster has been created to help put owners minds at rest and ensure that no pets are left at home if something was to happen to them.
This time last year we had a litter of baby bunnies born at the GSPCA.
A year later Hazel and Lavender two of those baby bunnies are still here and looking for their new and forever home.
As it is such a special day one of our team has given them a very special treat for their special day.

Once again the GSPCA would like to say a huge thank you to NGIT
NGIT have been hugely supportive for many years to the GSPCA from providing equipment to advice, training to support and we cannot thank them enough for all they do and especially to Matthew Hale who regularly gives up his own time to update systems and fit new equipment.
We thought you might like to know a little more about our team during the current lock down due to Covid-19. Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager has asked a number of questions and to start off we meet Anna Paint the GSPCA Senior Animal Care Assistant who heads up the cattery and has worked at the GSPCA since October 2002
Steve Byrne asks “Why did you want to work for the GSPCA?”
The Association of Dogs and Cats Home (ADCH) has launched an Emergency Fund for animal rescues across the British Isles, to help them continue their vital work during the coronavirus outbreak.
This comes in response to a survey of rescue and rehoming organisations by ADCH, the sector umbrella body for companion animal rescue organisations, which revealed:
• 100% said their income had reduced;
• 61% said they have reduced staff numbers (the majority through furloughing);
• 55% said that fundraising income had already reduced by over 50%;
On the 15th February the GSPCA had a very unusual arrival.
We have seen a rise in reptiles in recent years as unwanted pets and even cruelty cases, but rarely get wild reptiles but back in February a stow away from much further East than Herm was brought into the GSPCA.
A couple who had recently been on holiday to India were shocked to find that a very unusual little creature had taken a trip in their bags and returned home with them.
Last night the GSPCA undertook its first ever virtual tour.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager who lives on site and is currently having to cover 6 night shifts a week undertook a very special tour for the Guernsey 3rd Cubs Group.
The Cub group who would normally meet each Tuesday at 630pm and in the past have come up to the GSPCA to help towards their animal badge, due to the strict social distancing have moved their meetings onto Microsoft Teams.
The current lock down has caused huge challenges at the GSPCA and the team have taken a proactive approach to face the wide range of issues.
At the Animal Shelter we have 42 kennels and as of yesterday the only dog for rehoming inline with the strict social distancing guidelines was rehomed through our online adoption process.
This means we are in unprecedented times as we have no dogs at the GSPCA in kennels or foster homes.
