Last night the Guernsey Community Foundation Awards 2018 took place and the GSPCA were there in force with staff, volunteers and linked organisations as an amazing number of categories had GSPCA volunteers or projects as finalists.

Lucy a 10 year old long haired tortie has recently been diagnosed with a growing lump in her abdomen.
After a vet check yesterday with Isabelle Vet Ben Howitt it was decided to help save Lucy’s life with an operation which is urgently required to help Lucy who is one of the friendliest cats at the GSPCA.
Anna Paint Senior Animal Care Assistant said “Lucy arrived in the summer and has had a number of ailments treated but in the last week she has become very unwell and yesterday the vet found a large mass in her abdomen.”
As anyone who has visited Herm will know it is a stunning and wonderful island to visit and for those who have taken their dog over will have enjoyed the scenic walks and friendly atmosphere.
The GSPCA are hugely grateful to Herm Island who for any booking in their cottages with a dog before the 31st December are donating £20 to help the many animals in our care.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Herm is such an incredible place to visit and as a family we have often taken our dogs over to enjoy the stunning walks and wonderful dog friendly locations on the island.”
Yesterday a team of 7 HSBC Private Bank staff spent the day helping out at the GSPCA.
The group arrived just after 9am where they were greeted by Tim Pellett GSPCA Community and Training Officer who after a quick safety briefing got them off to work around the site helping clean, tidy, garden and care for the many animals at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
All of the HSBC Private Bank staff were an amazing help and from all of the GSPCA a huge thank you to them for all they did.
Last week Andrew the Jersey Grey Seal Pup was rescued and transported to the GSPCA.
At only 17kgs and less than a week old this very pretty young seal pup should have still been with his mum and not in the emaciated condition as he was found.
Andrew has a very bad chest infection and desperately underweight and has been receiving care around the clock day and night.

This lunch time the youngest grey seal pup to arrive at the GSPCA in many years arrived from Jersey.
Andrew as the pup has been named still has his white fluffy coat which is lost at 14 days of age, making him around 7-12 days old and at only 17kg he is painfully thin.
New marine mammal medic Martine Venton-Heys who helped with the rescue in Jersey yesterday accompanied Andrew who is being shown around the GSPCA while she waits for her flight back to Jersey thanks to Blue Island who helped provide the transport needed.
On the 19th October 3 staff from Man Fund Management (Guernsey) Limited attended the GSPCA to give up a day in the office to help with the work around the Shelter.
The day was started with a quick induction followed by a picture at the front of the GSPCA.
They were then put to work helping paint a container next to our Memorial Garden which was in desperate need of a spruce up.
